Incision not closed after 4 weeks. Warning, photo.

I had keyhole surgery 4 weeks ago. I had issues with this incision. I've had antibiotics and the issue has cleared up but it's just not closing.

Dr a few weeks ago said it's small so they would just leave it to close.

But it hasn't. Should I go back?

The stuff around is plaster adhesive BTW.

Yes this needs to be looked at as it’s clearly not healing properly. Do you feel well otherwise?

KEG05 · 22/08/2021 21:41

Yes you need to go back. It needs swabbed to see what bacteria is causing it to not heal. It looks infected to me.

TheCuttySharp · 22/08/2021 21:46

It's not infected. I had swabs and bloods. I'm completely fine. Have been the whole time.

They gave antibiotics as a prevention before they figured out the issue was fatty tissue damage from the op causing it to 'weep'.

I think it might need suturing again?

Yes go back. I'd imagine it needs swabbing, cleaning and then steri strips to hold together.

TheCuttySharp · 22/08/2021 21:47

I think they issue is that the weeping caused the dissolvable stitches to come loose early and now the insides of the wound have healed but not together.

I've tried steristrips but because of the area they aren't string enough to keep it together.

Only your GP or practice nurse can tell you properly, after they've inspected it. Ring them first thing tomorrow

DismantledKing · 22/08/2021 21:55

Are you eating enough protein to encourage it to heal?

TheCuttySharp · 22/08/2021 22:00

I've had bariatric surgery so trying to get 60g a day or protein.

Me too. Had a bit of an infection in a couple of mine, and they’re also taking a while to heal.

Oh when did you have yours done? How are you finding it.

Sleeve early August. Fed up of protein shakes. Now covering all wounds with Alevyn dressings to avoid clothes rubbing on them, as I think this may have contributed to the problem (wounds were glued during surgery).
