Cinema CF

Just a bit of a rant. Booked a group of 8 seats at cinema for 3D film last night - you get allocated seats. We booked well in advance to get great seats (centre of back row) all together - 4 adults and 4 kids (one with SN).
Arrive to find a family sat in 4 of our seats. The DW of the family insists it's a cinema double booking mistake and we will have to sit elsewhere (pretty busy so we'd have been dotted around).
Go to lobby who say they'll send manager. Head back to cinema (to stand in aisles and watch the 4 DC (who have sat in our remaining seats) and ask the DW if we can all look at our tickets. She gets her tickets and email confirmation but won't show the date - keeps her thumb over it and says there's no date on it.
Manager arrives and quickly establishes the other family have tickets for the wrong day. The family don't want to move until they are given new seats as they say they booked by telephone and wanted that day so it's cinema fault. Obvs hadn't checked her email confirmation or tickets.
Manager says no one can just sit anywhere due to keeping gaps between seats (Covid safety) and he'll ask lobby to find seats the family can move to but meanwhile we must stand in aisles or outside.
Film starts, all goes dark. We ask him to move the family so we can sit down in the seats we bought with our DC as one has SN but No, as film has started he said he can't ask CF family to move due to health & safety until he has seats for them. Didn't seem bothered that the family didn't actually have tickets for that day. Manager also totally unfazed that us 4 were stood in aisles or outside the doors with him missing the film.
CF DW gets up to come and tell me I'm overreacting and to just sit anywhere! An easy thing for her to say while she's sat in the best seats (ours) with our DC, and there's no other large groups of seats all together for our group. She didn't even have tickets for that day.
We missed over 20 mins of the film before the hopeless manager received confirmation from lobby where to reseat the CF family, who then reluctantly moved.
Would you be cross? We were. As it was 3D we couldn't watch it whilst trying to reason with manager that it was the other family that needed to move and quickly as we were missing film.
I'm certain CF DW knew she had wrong tickets well before film started - that's why she showed us the seats and screen number but not the date and manager told her before film started that hers were for the next day.
If you discovered BEFORE the film that you didn't have tickets wouldn't you just get up and let the people with tickets sit down??? That's what I can't get my head round. I'd have been up straightaway and apologising not demanding the other family sit all over the place so I could have their seats.
Just venting - it was all upsetting as we don't get out much, and missing 20 mins of start of film is not good.
She was a CF surely?

She was in the wrong, and the manager handled it very badly.

I would be asking for a full refund.

Gizlotsmum · 22/08/2021 10:52

I would be complaining about how it was handled. The family in the wrong seats should have been moved whilst seats were being found not you.

AgithaRaisen · 22/08/2021 10:53

Some people are just wankers. . What's the point in having a system if you are not going to police it

Yes really badly handled by the manager there. I would think there would be a free cinema trip on the cards if you complained!

user1471530109 · 22/08/2021 10:54

I hope you got a refund Shock

PyjamaFan · 22/08/2021 10:54

You definitely need a full refund.

I've seen this happen before when a group had the wrong showing time and they had to leave.

The people who have the wrong date, time or whatever should be the ones to leave or move.

BlusteryLake · 22/08/2021 10:56

The sheer brass neck of some people when they know they are in the wrong is astounding. It's almost as if they start down a path and then are too scared to back down that they convince themselves they are right! I am glad their "brazen it out" technique failed.

GinasGirl · 22/08/2021 10:57

We had this the other day, went to watch The Free Guy and walked in to find people sat in our seats, luckily they were more accommodating and moved quite quickly but then for the next 10 minutes was moved on 3 more times for sitting in others seats while loudly stating that they didn't have seat numbers and doing things like forgetting their drinks, making a big deal of it all. Lady, just look at your confirmation! 😅

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 22/08/2021 11:02

I'd tell them I wanted a refund for all the tickets and complain about the manager to their head office. If you can't find a number, plaster it across Facebook and Twitter, they'll soon message you.

That isn't on.

Tlollj · 22/08/2021 11:02

I would have kicked up Merry hell made so much noise in the cinema that the dopey manger would have to find new seats for the CF everyone else would have joined in too.

CinemaPantomime · 22/08/2021 11:08

Thanks everyone. Feel bit better. Manager did tell us we were disturbing others hence why we went outside with him to try to hurry him along but one adult needed to stay with DC.
It was indeed Free Guy.
Why he didn't ask them to move BEFORE it started is beyond me - we kept asking him to and he kept saying he needed to find them new seats!
Yes - asked for refund and got complementary tickets for return as allegedly they can't refund but happy with other tickets for another day.
HOWEVER according to DC, the CF DW said she wanted a refund and also got complementary tickets. She did very well out of it - she saw the film yesterday, still has tickets for tomorrow (she or others could use those) AND got complementary tickets. Seems being a CF pays sometimes.

I don't think the cinema booked the other people on the wrong day at all. They either got the wrong date, or wished to make other plans for the day they had booked. The manager either is not strong willed or felt intimidated by the unusual claim. I can understand why you did call them out as lying but that's my theory.

Yes a refund, and perhaps tell the cinema they should be prepared and have an answer for such likely lies.

longtompot · 22/08/2021 11:14

She was a cf! The manager was weak. They should have got that group to move and wait outside whilst trying to find seats for them, not you. I take it you showed your tickets to them which showed you were indeed there on the right date and time and they were your seats?
Even though you have some comp tickets I would still complain to someone higher up. This hasn't just ruined your experience, it would have marred things for the rest of the people in the cinema.
I hope you have a better experience next time.

SisterMonicaJoansHabit · 22/08/2021 11:15

Wow. CF shouldn't have received complementary tickets and should have had theirs nullified for the next day. What an absolute cheek.

Emanchego · 22/08/2021 11:16

Some knob heads just lack self awareness don't they. Can't stand self important twats like those.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 22/08/2021 11:20

They were cheeky fuckers most likely.
But the manager can't physically haul them from their seats and they played a blinder by blaming the cinema.
People like that could not give a shit about other people.
Not the managers fault though, did the best with the options available to them.

AlfonsoTheMango · 22/08/2021 11:23

You should ask for a full refund, OP. And I'm not the kind of person who normally makes a fuss but this kind of thing gives me the rage.

This happened to me with a train seat - reserved seat, turned up to find another person in my seat (a woman with a man who I presume was her partner), the two of them argued with me and refused to move although I could prove I had booked the seat and their tickets showed they were in the wrong seats. They eventually got up to move but only after swearing at me and making a huge scene. I was on my own and have autism so the whole situation was very stressful.

CinemaPantomime · 22/08/2021 11:26

Yes longtompot we showed her our tickets. CF said cinema had double booked. My DH was asking to see her tickets but she only showed seats and screen number and kept thumb over date and ignored us when we asked her to check the date.
I think I will write and complain as the manager handled it so poorly. The CF family did very well out of it and it was us who missed a chunk of the film. I don't want anything more as I got the free tickets but clearly it was handled badly.

OP posts:
SpiderinaWingMirror · 22/08/2021 11:26

Oh yes, train reservations are seen as sport by those sorts of cheeky fuckers.

CinemaPantomime · 22/08/2021 11:28

AlfonsoTheMango sorry that happened to you - at least I had others with me and you did well to stand up to them.

whynotwhatknot · 22/08/2021 11:30

The manager was wrong they didnt have the right date and he should have just firmly asked them to leave not re seat them and definitely not comp them even more tickets

go higher he really sholdnt be in that job if he cant even be firm

StormcloakNord · 22/08/2021 11:33

Definitely request a full refund - that's ridiculous!

I love going to the cinema but can't stand how it brings out the utter selfish wankers in people.

We went to see Free Guy the other day and ended up plagued with a group of 5 teens that spent the entire time either on their phones, pushing back on their seats (one actually broke their seat) and chatting between them!! As well as 3 separate groups of people walking in 15 minutes late to the film pissing everyone else off.

Wish cinemas were more strict and actually policed wankers and late arrivals better.

Topia · 22/08/2021 11:43

Yeah she knew she had the wrong tickets/date/whatever. She was chancing her luck.

Complain.

OldTinHat · 22/08/2021 11:46

YABU for thinking the centre of the back row are the best seats! Grin Seriously though, that's happened to me before and it gives me the rage (but not 'those' seats though, the actual best seats!).

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 22/08/2021 11:56

I always complain if the cinema visit goes wrong. I usually take 4 dc and it isn't a cheap trip out!!
Yabu not to insist on a refund..
