What little thing in life do you enjoy?

I love my family - I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 months old. Everyone is still asleep and I'm having a coffee, browsing mumsnet for advice. The silence & the peace is beautiful.

I love it. What do you love, what's your little thing in life that gives you pleasure? Xx

Disney, Christmas and my family 🥰🥰

On Fridays we watch a family series (at the moment it is The Durrells) with some form of 'party tea'. Is a really nice start to the weekend.

Egghead68 · 22/08/2021 06:51

Going for long walks with a podcast on.

@lannistunut that sounds like a really nice little routine you have with your family.

@Egghead68 yes, I get that - sounds really nice.

I get down next to my dog and sniff him. I love him.

What do you eat at your tea party.
coodawoodashooda · 22/08/2021 07:01

I love being organised and getting to my bed early.

lannistunut · 22/08/2021 07:10

@coodawoodashooda My DH makes excellent pizzas so the kids usually like that, with salads. But sometimes we have samosas or veggie burgers, or an afternoon tea with sadmwiches and scones. It feels like a party tea because we put it on the table as a buffet and I have been known to add a cheese and pineapple hedgehog and some hula hoops for that 80s vibe.

salooone · 22/08/2021 07:11

Same as you OP. Am up hours before everyone else, i brew a pot of coffee and just sit in silence for a bit, preferably in the garden (weather permitting). My neighbours are all DIY enthusiasts so the early mornings before the rest of the world is up is my absolute favourite part of the day.

Words · 22/08/2021 07:14

I love the early morning too. Been up for a couple of hours already. Best time of day.

PalmarisLongus · 22/08/2021 07:23

Opening new jars of stuff.

Doesn't matter if it's coffee, honey, jam, pickle etc. That satisfying 'Pop' of the lid and fresh new smell of the contents that has to be sniffed.

I have simple pleasures... Maybe because I am simple... Halo

Genehuntsfanclub · 22/08/2021 07:24

Good morning early birds! I'm always the first one up in our house. Husband and 3 teenagers ( youngest is 12 but the size of a 15 year old) all still asleep. So it's just me and the dog on the sofa having first cup of tea in the morning watching the birds and browsing Mumsnet...bliss

PrimeraVez · 22/08/2021 07:27

Unblocking the kitchen sink (which is a common occurrence in our house due to shit plumbing) I find it so therapeutic! DH knows to leave it to me to do and it's my little bit of pleasure once the kids are in bed Grin

MuchTooTired · 22/08/2021 07:35

I enjoy watching my kids during their adorable moments. Silly things like when they give each other a hug, snuggle up on the sofa, or make sure they’re ok after an ouchy. Just hearing them look out for each other makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

My favourite time of day is when the whole house is asleep and it’s just silent. That is bliss. Sure, I’ll pay for it the next day so I don’t do it often.

LeonoraFlorence · 22/08/2021 07:44

Sounds lovely, OP.
DH and I are sitting in garden with a coffee (baby too!) listening to the birds. I love doing this in the mornings. He’s desperate to wake DDs to fit in a quick swim with them before we go out today but I’m making the most of the silence just now!

HurryUpAndStandThere · 22/08/2021 08:03

Waking up to one or another of the grandkids draped over me like an overcoat when they've stayed overnight.
DH usually gets kicked into one of the spare beds while they get in with me.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 22/08/2021 08:03

Wonderful thread @gemloving
I love waking early before the rest of the house. Throwing open the bedroom window & listening to the birds or the rain, whilst drinking a coffee. I then like to go for an early swim.

Shelby10 · 22/08/2021 08:06

A family walk with the dog then to come home and make a Sunday lunch. Weekends for me doing anything or nothing. Just being off work and being together as a family. I love it.

MrsG30 · 22/08/2021 08:08

I love taking half hour to myself a few evenings a week once the baby and toddler are asleep, and doing a face mask, nails, brows etc.

Also have enjoyed being up early this morning. Toddler slept in and baby went back down, so enjoyed a cup of tea in the conservatory. I’ve been watching the wildlife, especially enjoying the foxes running around the lane at the back of the garden!

AmIDoingThisRight · 22/08/2021 08:14

Feeding the birds and watching them play in the bird bath. We had a family of sparrows this summer and watched the babies grow from fledglings to grownup sparrows!

Also, stroking my cat's fluffy tummy in the evening and listening to him purr. He's not a sparrow fan, luckily.

It sounds like we all enjoy early mornings (and coffee for some) or some time to ourselves.

@MuchTooTired I cannot wait for those moments, I sometimes spy (and make sure he doesn't hurt his bro) on my toddler when he talks to his baby brother, giving him cuddles and kisses.

Growing up, we always had what Mum called a Saturday tea. Ham, tongue, cheese, salad, pork pie, bread and butter, cakes, jelly and ice cream or trifle. Endless cups of tea. My grandfather visited on a Saturday which made it extra festive. In later years we had a student friend who regularly dropped in to see us and to share in this meal which was always nice. I’m changing my job soon and won’t be working shifts so I plan to resurrect this for DP and I.
