What little thing in life do you enjoy?

I love my family - I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 months old. Everyone is still asleep and I'm having a coffee, browsing mumsnet for advice. The silence & the peace is beautiful.

I love it. What do you love, what's your little thing in life that gives you pleasure? Xx

Driving to work alone, on the motorway with the heated massage seats on. Bliss and really calms me down!

Challenging , do! It requires very little effort apart from putting the things out on plates and maybe a little extra washing up. You can put out whatever cold stuff you like, coleslaw, potato salad, pickles, crisps, etc. Sometimes Mum would do some oven chips to go with it. We generally went into town on a Saturday so she often bought cakes at Marks but my sister liked to bake too so homemade too. We were very lucky! It’s lovely to have all the family around the table.

Love this thread! DH is at work so it’s just me this morning with my cup of tea.

First thing in the morning, especiallt when my son has ended up in my bed, its lovely having everyone asleep together. My husband, son, cat and dog are not morning people, so knowing they’ll all be asleep until about 8 is lovely, peace and quiet is a wonderful thing.

BigGreen · 23/08/2021 07:39

@lannistunut that's a fabulous tradition. I'm definitely going to try it out.

For me it's curling up with a good book. I also love starting a new cookbook. Plus having adventures with the kids. Last night we went frog spotting!

Sitting in the garden with a brew when e stone else has gone to bed. So peaceful.

DustySpringboard · 23/08/2021 08:23

Getting lost in a good book

Clean bedding

An empty and quiet house-extremely rare since COVID but today is one of those days

MattDamon · 23/08/2021 08:36

Putting the heat on whenever and however high I want. I grew up poor (and neglected) and spent many nights awake and shivering under a pile of blankets and coats.

Watching washing dry
Doing gardening
Chatting with my daughter
Bringing my dogs for a walk
Doing meditation

I also love organising /tidying a cupboard or room. The feeling once it’s done is great. I did the swap over from summer to autumn clothes at the weekend. It was nice to pull out the coats & boots in preparation for the colder weather. I’ve started a list of places to sort and it is so satisfying. Even just doing a kitchen drawer whilst waiting for something to cook feels like an achievement. I especially like tidying/organising when I’m the only one home - it means I don’t have to break off for meals & I can plough through.
It really is the simple things……

cheeseisthebest · 24/08/2021 08:19

My dog. Only had him a few weeks. He's amazing

TheWayTheLightFalls · 24/08/2021 08:22

Being in the garden by myself and snaffling blackberries/blueberries. I usually garden with DD but when it’s just me it’s a particular treat.

Disneyblue · 24/08/2021 08:23

You may laugh, but using a hairdryer.
There's nothing better than the feel and sound of a hairdryer, especially on a cold winter's night. It also has a calming effect on me when I'm feeling anxious.
It's a nostalgic thing as I always remember as a teen getting home on a cold night after putting my horse to bed, getting a shower then drying my hair on my bed.
Bliss.

I get so much pleasure from the little things in life, particularly as I get older. I definitely think I belong in another, slower paced era.
I love the changing of the seasons, autumn walks, lighting candles in the evening, making my house cosy with fairy lights and low lighting, baths, reading a great book, listening to the world around me, watching the sea, taking my children for a spontaneous trip after school, sitting in a coffee shop for ages reading a book.

spartanthehorse · 24/08/2021 08:33

Oh and anything to do with festivals or special days - Easter, Christmas, thanksgiving, Halloween, fireworks night, etc - love all the cooking, crafting, decorating.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 24/08/2021 08:36

Sitting with a cup of tea or coffee outside or at a window and watching birds at a feeder station.

Sunsets

Window1 · 24/08/2021 08:41

Most of my life enjoyment comes from the little things.

Hugs from family
Listening to the birds in the garden
Walks in picturesque places, especially near any body of water.
Meals with friends or loved ones.
Making a meal from scratch, radio on, sipping wine.

Days off work.

Oh yes, candles and changing seasons too.

This is a heartwarming thread 🥰

I have another one to add!

Sunday family night teas are always awesome especially in the winter when we come home from a trip out and it’s dark, we shower and jama whilst tea is cooking then we will have a roast or a nice casserole in front of a film with the new candles on and fairy lights. Or put some chestnuts in the over to roast for a snack! Most often than not in the winter Sunday nights always end with a glass of hot mulled wine for us and spicy warm apple juice for the girls

LindaEllen · 24/08/2021 09:39

I love it when DP and DSS are both on their computers at the same time, and I can grab a brew, a snack, and a book. I audibly sigh when I sink into the sofa with those things, ready for a couple of hours reading!

languagelover96 · 24/08/2021 09:57

A high quality novel , a full on body massage and Halloween. Oh and Death in Paradise. I also love rich food and sleep.

Snog · 24/08/2021 10:01

I love having the washing machine on and being in another room, hearing it do it's work while I sit down with a cuppa.

It feels like hard work is being done for me but not by me so I can do nothing at all but still feel virtuous

mum2jakie · 28/08/2021 17:03

I love watching washing drying on the line. Makes me feel productive
