What moments in time are you enjoying reliving through your DC’s?

Not sure if I’ve worded the thread title right, but DD (6) has just discovered Harry Potter. She’s just finished the first book and I’d forgotten how good they were. I read them when they first came out. I’m so excited to read the whole series with her and watch the films.

What things have you enjoyed re-discovering with your kids?

Sandcastles and crab-fishing on holiday. I think I get more into it than them!

Also rereading favourite children's books.

girlmama32 · 21/08/2021 20:49

Watching all the Disney films, DD has just started to properly watch a film at almost 2, I forgot how good the old classics were.

Netball. Bought DC a hoop and now spend most evenings out there myself improving my shots. Still feel too unsporty and uncompetitive to join a women's team though

Ds is 18 so after A levels I introduced him to Broadchurch. His face when he figured out the killer before it was revealed! He just looked at me and said "Noooooooo." It was fantastic. So don't think it ends when they grow up. Grin

All the animals

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/08/2021 21:39

Giraffes.

They were giants when I was a small child. Now my daughter is obsessed and the pure joy on her face seeing them close up.

I felt like a kid again when I saw my childhood favourite in real life for the first time ever (polar bears )

Chocolate! As in, I was never opposed to it but the thrill she gets out of a little block of Cadbury’s or slice of cake is a-mazing.

Playing crap tennis with 8 year old.
Seaside
Seeing things through his eyes like the first time

Lots of children’s books and movies

Making “drip castles” on the beach where you build towers out of runny sand.

Stepping on crunchy leaves

Little tricks like “one two skip a few 99 100” and “one plus one equals window”

Cartwheels! I can still just about do one (well I did once when DD asked me to and am never trying again in case it doesn’t go as well !!)

Clapping rhymes, although it’s made me realise some of the lyrics are not hugely child suitable…

@OnTheBenchOfDoom that’s lovely to hear! I mean, murder aside 😂

We are onto DGC - seeing the world through their eyes is mind blowing!
DGD2 is starting school in September. As part of the run up she has been introduced to the concept of School Holidays. Her response? 'But where do the Schools go to for their holidays?'
Priceless!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 21/08/2021 21:59

@SaveWaterDrinkGin yes, murder aside.

The conspiratorial parent/child stuff. Like sneaking stuff into the shopping trolley when Dh isn't looking, or when Dh would come home a bit late due to a meeting and working with people in different time zones and he would ask the boys what they had had for dinner. Without fail they would say a roast dinner despite literally just having finished waffles with ice cream and maple syrup, with their bowls still in front of them. Dh saying I hope you ate all your vegetables and the boys thinking they had hoodwinked their Dad. Just brilliant little things.

Books too, I read my favourite book to Ds1 when he was 14. He absolutely loved it. I have also passed books to both children to read. I enjoy sharing scenes from them. I will often stick a post it in and say when you get to that bit I will read it to you. They enjoy that.

I read my old battered copy of The Enchanted Wood to my dd6 last year and loved how she was so enthralled by Silky and Moonface and was guessing what land was going to be at the top of the Faraway Tree just like I did.

@OnTheBenchOfDoom it’s so nice to hear the lovely moments keep on coming

I saw your title in active threads and came on to comment Harry Potter Smile. It was magical to reread them with DD1 and DD2 has just started on the first book now.
