How much do you spend on your adult children's birthday/Christmas

Further to a previous thread where a child had expectations of how much should be spent on a birthday gift. I know many people think nothing of spending £100s on their offspring for these events. I am sure by the time I got to 18, my parents probably spent the equivalent of £25 tops. Some of my similar age friends tell me their parents still buy them huge gifts. At what age should they realise that as adults they should not have such high expectations?

Mine give £50 for birthdays and religious celebrations. I'm 34 and have told them they no longer need to buy for me, they buy for my kids and that adds up but neither parent will listen.

We get £500 cash and then presents from my mum for Xmas and birthday
She also gives up money towards holidays/cars etc

I feel guilty after reading your posts... I really go OTT 😶
Usually around £120 for birthdays then a party and cake so adds up to about £300 (not so much the older kids now, they usually want trainers and outfit so that's easily £200)
Then for Christmas it's usually around £500 each and that's not including clothes or the activities we do in the run up !! X

This is really interesting, I have one adult ds and still spend the same on him as younger ds, which if I am honest is too much. My parents spend up to £100 on us each, they say pick something up to £100 and if it is less they always add in extra bits. I am not sure when it will lesson for my dc.

@blueberrywaffle the op is asking about spending on adult children. Unless you are still paying for parties and cakes for your adult children?!
We spend a huge amount on ours but they’re still young and all live at home.

Even the adult kids. Usually £200 ish on clothes for birthdays then a meal- Christmas is around £500 still then the Christmas Eve box's. They don't live at home the oldest 2!

My parents still spend a lot on me also. They got me the new go pro last Christmas

My DPs used to spend more on me before I had my DS - oh well! I always get something I appreciate so am happy. I think they would spend about £40 now as my DM always saying she is spending that on my DH

When in was 18, we started getting £20 for birthday and £30 for Christmas.

Interesting range of answers, though it seems our offspring will always be our 'children' whatever age they are. As I said my DPs only spent about £25/30 on us as adults. However they did not like spending money and would buy 'savers' stuff from supermarket even though they had plenty of savings.
