I just watched the parachute death from Hollyoaks. I’ve never watched Hollyoaks, but oh my god, it was so haunting. I felt terrified.

I’m not sure I recommend anyone watching it! The only other times I’ve really been affected by tv was on This is England the tv series - the rape by the stepfather and then the crack orgy for the young girl with all the skanky men. Both made me feel really ill.

The only other tv that gets to me is Futurama at the end of Jurassic Bark - the dog WAITED 😭

Anything that you couldn’t watch again/haunted you?

@SkylarFerris definitely Blackfish, I think it's because it is an example of how utterly vile we can be as a species and the ridiculous notion that we can control powerful wild animals for our entertainment. And not imagine there won't be casualties.

The motorbike over the cliff top scene in Quadrophenia. Accidentally saw it in my early teens as came downstairs when dad was watching it. Haunts me to this day

Noshowwithoutpunch · 21/08/2021 20:40

Love Actually (sorry). Emma Thompson's character opening the CD.

Libraryghost · 21/08/2021 20:40

Blackadder the final scene during the last series WW1 - when they going over the top. Nothing and I mean nothing brought home the horror of war to me like that scene did.

dworky · 21/08/2021 20:42

@VeganVeal

All episodes of 'Duty Free' it was awful
Grin It really was
Notashandyta · 21/08/2021 20:42

The boy whose skin fell off.

The misery of his poor life with that condition (and his family's) in contrast with such an amazing, beautiful soul

Puddingypops · 21/08/2021 20:43

The negan killing scene season 7 of the walking dead. It really disturbed me

sorrysaywhatnow · 21/08/2021 20:45

There was an episode of Luther where the murderer/serial killer slides out from under the bed of a sleeping girl, I still think of that years later it was bloody awful

HummingBeeBox · 21/08/2021 20:45

I can't remember what it was but the woman in this British series concreted a man into her basement floor and he has a feeding tube and an oxygen set up. I'm not particularly claustrophobic but my goodness that really got to me. He will be there forever. No escape, ever. Chilling. He was a bastard in the show but wow, what a comeuppance!

Rolandrat12 · 21/08/2021 20:46

When Yvonne Atkins was trapped in an underground tunnel in Bad Girls. I can still picture her clawing the walls in desperation to escape.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 21/08/2021 20:47

The rape scene in The Accused

doingadisservice · 21/08/2021 20:47

Torchwood - children of earth. When it's revealed the children where surgically attached to the aliens still alive because they felt good.
Horrendous

  • Valjean stepping out of his body as he dies in end of Les Mis and is welcomed by the Bishop (played by Colm Wilkinson no less) who changed his life. He then joins Gavroche et al as the final song plays! I sob way more when I see it on stage or listen to 10th Anniversary soundtrack from Albert Hall
  • Tom Hanks in Philadelphia as he says goodbye to his family in hospital bed then takes his mask off accepting he is ready to die as he sits with his partner.
  • BBC remake of Roots when the plantation owner drags his wife to be lynched and strings her up as he considers her a traitor for helping the slaves and not wanting to help confederate soldiers.
  • the anal rape scene in Irreversible has made me think more about my safety at night than anything else I've seen.
-Never realised how dark the This is England series was! Was going to watch it but may give it a miss now. The film stayed with me when Milky gets beaten and Combo loses it.

This too I couldn't watch the rest of that season for months after that!
Ididanamechange · 21/08/2021 20:55

Promising young woman. It would have been a difficult watch anyway but I saw it at the same that Sarah Everard had been found and lots of women were posting online about all the abuse and threatening behaviour they had experienced from men. When the final scene happened and the music came on I just sat and stared until the credits started. Something about what was happening in the news made it feel like I was watching something real and actually happening, because it is real and does happen, and it left me chilled for several days.

Crunchymum · 21/08/2021 20:55

I have never watched Luther but someone at work described a scene to me and I watched it on YouTube (in a busy office)

God it was fucking terrifying.

It was the girl on the bus Sad

Maggiesgirl · 21/08/2021 20:55

Outlander Season 1 Ep 16. To Ransom a Man's Soul. I knew it was coming as had read the books more than once, but oh my god.

The acting from both Tobias Menzies and Sam Heughan was outstanding, but although I have watched the series more than once as well, I have never watched that episode again.

Omg Jim Fenner locking her in!
MisterMeaner · 21/08/2021 20:56

@Muuuuuuuuum1

Episode of Luther where the killer is in the attic... still think of that whole scene from time to time.
I think of this every time I go into our loft.
TheVolturi · 21/08/2021 20:57

There is a film that I have not watched, but just reading about it has affected me badly, The Human Centipede 🤢

Yutes · 21/08/2021 20:57

Dead Man’s Shoes. It’s brilliant but such a hard watch.

orchidsonabudget · 21/08/2021 20:57

The dead baby in train spotting
Also there was a drama where David Tennant was a lawyer and someone was watching his wife awful
When julia roberts finds the tins lined up in sleeping with the enemy
And the one with Gillian Anderson and creepy jamie dornan

Yutes · 21/08/2021 20:58

Four Lions

Popfan · 21/08/2021 20:59

@doingadisservice Yes! That Torchwood episode haunted me for ages and I still think of it sometimes. Both the bit you describe and also when Captain Jack sacrifices his grandson and his daughter is shut outside knowing he was killing her son.... awful. That was the last Torchwood episode I ever watched!!

Libraryghost · 21/08/2021 21:00

Every episode of tales of the unexpected. Ruined my childhood. The opening credits were enough to give you the willies..
