I just watched the parachute death from Hollyoaks. I’ve never watched Hollyoaks, but oh my god, it was so haunting. I felt terrified.

I’m not sure I recommend anyone watching it! The only other times I’ve really been affected by tv was on This is England the tv series - the rape by the stepfather and then the crack orgy for the young girl with all the skanky men. Both made me feel really ill.

The only other tv that gets to me is Futurama at the end of Jurassic Bark - the dog WAITED 😭

Anything that you couldn’t watch again/haunted you?

Threads is horrible but when wind blows is more harrowing as they're a lovely old couple being left alone in a post apocalyptic world. Also it's set near where we live.( Great soundtrack though).

Definitely agree about this is England 86-90 with the rape and suicide references.

Also the abuse scenes in Sleepers.

The bullying of a learning disabled guy in dead man's shoes.

Precious is horrific. Her daydreams and celebrity cameos lighten it up very very slightly.

On Eastern promises. When the nurses uncle translates the dead girls' diary. And when the mob boss kicks his drunken son in the privates.

70s kid's show puppets- very disturbing.

The unexpected male rape scene in the prison toilets involving a truncheon in Silent Witness. You didn't actually see it but the screams have never left me. I think there was blood running from under the door. I had nightmares for weeks and have been unable to watch any series since. I worry about the people who come up with this stuff.

It amazes me that kindly DH can watch all sorts without being affected at all and I'm fed up with having early nights due to the warnings given beforehand on TV.

I don't want to watch torture!!!!!

Pebbledashery · 21/08/2021 22:35

Oh god, precious and her vile mother... When she says come take care of mummy precious.. I don't even want to imagine what that was about.

Mumsgirls · 21/08/2021 22:36

Cupcake daisy ‘ who will love my children’ never forgot it where she is dying and places all the children, then no one wants the epileptic one but he visits his brother and his new parents take the brother as well.
Also she sings San Antonia Rose, which my Dad used to sing and he recently died so even more moving.
Also the kid who wears the helmet for a bad deformity, a more recent one.

Tinacollada · 21/08/2021 22:37

Brookside - Trevor Jordaches hand emerging from the soil under the patio 😱

OohThatCat · 21/08/2021 22:39

Cannot watch Jurassic bark!! Sad

There's an episode of The X Files called Home that I watched recently, I think it was the most complained about one. About a family in inbreds who kept their quadriplegic Mum on a board under their bed and would mate with her. Just really vile.

Carter being stabbed in ER and the falling to the floor seeing Lucy stabbed on the other side. Haven't watched that in years but stays with me!

Esther on Hollyoaks drinking vodka and taking paracetamol and trying to kill herself all alone, and it took ages for anyone to find her. And I think when they did, her family were absolute dicks to her about her suicide attempt, and that stayed with me too.

Ichoosechocolate · 21/08/2021 22:40

The Changeling. Such a sad film and it really stayed with me for a long time. I don’t think I could ever watch it again, especially as I now have children.

MysteriousWhiff · 21/08/2021 22:41

Will’s death in Flambards.

Damon’s death in Brookside.

JLL1990 · 21/08/2021 22:43

Totally woth you on Jurassic Bark!! Cried so much when I watched that and never watched that episode ever again. It’s actually making me upset just thinking about it! 😭

When I read the title….first thing I thought of was that Hollyoaks episode!
mightymalties · 21/08/2021 22:45

Has anyone mentioned Grave of the Fireflies yet?

Eden Lake truly disturbed me. And that scene (with the truck) in the original The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer (shudders).

The scene others have mentioned from Spooks. It still haunts me now!

Midsommar and Hereditary really got under my skin.

The Human Centipede is truly godawful. I wasn't aware of how bad it would be before watching it. Just don't.

The original One Missed Call, in particular the scenes in the TV studio. And the original Oldboy, The Grudge, A Tale of Two Sisters (Hollywood remakes truly water down the impact).

Tanith · 21/08/2021 22:46

The last few scenes of The Wicker Man (original, not remake) horrified me - I can't watch it now.

We were made to watch Threads at school, too Sad

@ItIsMyName

Stella Does Tricks, disturbing & depressing.
Yes I was coming on to say this -particularly the bit during the 'punishment' gang rape where she reaches for the hand of the man who has arranged it. extraordinarily accurate detail and harrowing.
userxx · 21/08/2021 22:48

American History X - the kerb scene

This stuck with me.

rainbowlou · 21/08/2021 22:48

Years ago I watched No child of mine (Brooke kinsella played the main character) I thought the whole thing was so upsetting and disturbing.
At the end when it gave an update of her situation I realised it had been based on a true story and I just felt so awful for the poor girl, I don’t think I could watch it again.

Kanaloa · 21/08/2021 22:49

@LobotomisedIceSkatingFan

'This is really random and not at all a pivotal scene in the series, but when breaking bad was on I remember a scene where Jesse (a main character) breaks into the house of these drug addicts, possibly to attack them? I don’t remember. But there is a little toddler boy there and he’s been left amongst all the filth just to play around by himself. He sits watching adverts/tv shopping channels because nothing else works on the tv. Of all the stuff that happens on Breaking Bad in the early series that’s the bit I always remember, I always remember Jesse yelling at the mother why don’t you get him some good tv to watch. I don’t know why.'

The mother crushes the father's head with an ATM, and then passes out. Jesse (who I think was knocked unconscious) wakes up and calls the police, takes the kid and sits him on the porch, and tells him to have a good life. Then you hear the sirens as Jesse runs away. He pretty much saves the kid. I love that episode.

Oh yes, I remember now. I did like the episode but something about the little boy just upset me - I think it’s that he was so cheerful and not crying or upset. This was just the norm to him and it wasn’t an upsetting situation to him. And how when Jesse starts playing peek a boo with him he didn’t even know how to join in and then he was smiling 😢 I just wanted to wrap him up and run away.
auldmaw · 21/08/2021 22:50

A few folk have mentioned an attic scene from Luther. For me, it was an episode where a woman returns home and goes to bed and the guy slithers out from underneath it 😖 I think about that most bedtimes!

Floogal · 21/08/2021 22:50

@Pebbledashery

Oh god, precious and her vile mother... When she says come take care of mummy precious.. I don't even want to imagine what that was about.
Apparently there's a sequel to it, based on her son in the care system. Book called the kid (I think) Apparently just as harrowing
OldMamaOf3 · 21/08/2021 22:50

Most of the scenes in Nil By Mouth. Very hard to watch.
Also agree re: This Is England

Magpie1976 · 21/08/2021 22:50

@vampirethriller

Tig's daughter being burned to death in Sons of Anarchy. I think I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to nasty things in films but that made me feel sick. I had to go and wake my daughter up to cuddle her after.
I came in to say this. So harrowing I still remember it so many years later
52andblue · 21/08/2021 22:52

On a similar theme I once saw most of a film on TV one afternoon about a child who was asked to keep a secret - the atmosphere was harrowing although almost nothing was shown. Plus I remember a film about a girl abuse victim who found her way to safety but didn't go there until she had handfuls of cash because she thought she had to buy her safety. it was a Uk drama - I wish I knew what it was called.

I wouldn't even attempt to watch most on this list.

Littlekittyscupcake · 21/08/2021 22:54

Schindler’s List. I wish I never watched it. I was fairly young (think in my teens) and in my fourties now.

Snugglepumpkin · 21/08/2021 22:59

The scene in Savior starring Dennis Quaid that starts when the people are taken off the bus.

The particular bit that haunts me to this day even though I watched it about twenty years ago is on YouTube entitled "Savior (Dennis Quaid 1998) Come on... breathe!"

I wish I lived in a world where nobody could even imagine that any human being could view or treat another human being like that.
The whole film was a hard watch & the scene that sticks in my mind has less impact if you don't know how they arrived at that point, but that's the bit in particular that never leaves me.

It was meant to have been based on true accounts although I don' t know if that is true or how much artistic licence there was.

Pebbledashery · 21/08/2021 22:59

This is a random one.. But Midsummer Murders, Badgers drift episode.
Everything about that episode gives me the absolute creeps.

NigellaSeed · 21/08/2021 22:59

In Hannibal when Gary Oldman is convinced to cut off his own face and feed it to the dog. It makes me fill faint and like I can feel my face going pale thinking about it 😔😵
