Fexofenadine is making me feel weird

In a way that I can't quite explain. It's my first day of it.

Firstly I felt like it had some kind of clinical smell or taste that I can somehow taste through smelling it.

Then I wondered if it would cause a mental health issue as I felt myself kind of "coming up", although that stopped after a few minutes.

And now I feel kind of artificial? In my body I mean, not my mind. I can't even explain it, but it's as if I feel my body has stepped into some kind of artificial plain where I'm not really me. Like it's totally unnatural to have such a strong antihistamine. I mean I'm sure all prescription drugs are technically unnatural, but there's something about this one that's making me feel like I'm not really supposed to be here, like I've taken part in something I shouldn't.

I know this makes no sense at all.

I usually take Loratadine but it doesn't really work that well, that's why I given this during a GP appointment.

I have been on fexofenadine for years and it doesn't make me feel like that. It made me sleepy when I first started it but I got used to it pretty quickly.

I would talk to your doctor about it, there are other prescription antihistamines

It's weird, it feels like I'm not supposed to be here. Now I have a headache. I think it's too strong.

Just don't take it any more, there are plenty of other antihistamines.

I've also been on it for years and never had a hint of a side effect. Shame if they're like coming up.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/08/2021 16:55

I was given 180mg and found it just made my mouth and throat super dry.

allergyupset · 21/08/2021 16:57

180mg yes that's what I have.

Bad headache, feels wrong.

It took me a long time to adjust to it. It’s better to take it with your evening meal. That way you get the worst effects whilst asleep. Really helps me, I’d be in a sorry state without it.

WetBench · 21/08/2021 16:59

OP, just because other people haven’t had side effects doesn’t mean they don’t happen. It’s all great other posters saying “I was fine”. If 100% of people had side effects then it wouldn’t be prescribed!

OP. Either don’t take it again til Monday when you can talk to your gp or if you’re really concerned and need to take it then try out of hours for advice

allergyupset · 21/08/2021 17:01

Oh I took it this morning, maybe I'll skip tomorrow morning and take it in the evening instead

It was weird for me too, also exasperated my SVT.

Off them now thank god.
