Best course/s to study to get into IT?

I’m hoping for some advice from anyone working in IT or with knowledge of the field. Can anyone recommend which courses would be best to study to get into IT? I’m 43 and have been a SAHM for 8 years now and prior to that was working in admin so don’t really have any relevant experience. I have a degree in sociology which is 20 years old so again not really relevant.

I don’t mind how long the course would be (can commit to studying for a few years if necessary) and am happy to do in person or remote study, but I just don’t want to pick the wrong course and waste that time and money. I know whatever I do I’ll have to start at the bottom in an entry level position and I’m fine with that. I’d just really like find a way into this field and would appreciate any advice as to which routes would be best to go down?

I’m hoping once I have the relevant qualifications that my age won’t count against me or be a barrier to me finding work. If anyone has any experience of that I’d love to hear about it.
