Where to live in Hull?

I'm hoping MNers can help me be a good friend. My friend's daughter is starting Hull Uni this September. She's had a couple of years out, been pretty independent and so does not want to live in halls. Can anyone point us in the right direction for places near to the university to live, and places to avoid?
Also, she has the option of buying a bit of an old banger. Would a car be a good idea or a hindrance? (She can drive but has lived in London recently).

She needs to be looking at the Newland Avenue, Cottingham Road, Cranbrook avenue, Beverley Road areas. That seems to be where most students are and there's lots of bars down Newland Avenue.

If she's round there she'll be in walking distance to the Uni and there's good bus routes into the City centre.

Thanks, have taken a look. Newland Avenue seems to have more available. Is it a safe area? Street view suggests it might be a bit mixed?

It's a pretty safe area, it's busy with students and nightlife so not quiet.

I know people who live there (families) and they're happy.

This is more or less exactly what I was going to say x

Where is she going to be mainly studying...the Uni covers a large area

Oh, I don't know. Are there a few sites? I didn't think about that.

DS went to Hull uni and lived in one of the streets off Newland Avenue. Studenty area with some nice restaurants, cafes and pubs there, plus Piper club. He’d say that Hull is a fab place to study and had an amazing time there and was sorry to leave!

I would avoid the streets off newland avenue now. Used to be nice but they have changed. Lots of HMOs and very run down.

I would go for cottingham rd, Auckland avenue, cranbrook avenue, or slightly further away, Wellesley avenue, Beresford Avenue.

A car is always useful but buses in Hull are pretty good!

Thank you @Lily999888 she's looking forward to it. Life hasn't been easy for her and she's a bit wise beyond her years unfortunately. Your description sounds just what the doctor ordered.
