Help, I've got a tapeworm and it's messing with my head

I've had stomach ache for a few weeks. Phoned GP, submitted stool sample. Results not back yet. Gripey pain, back pain, feel tired. GP said probably gastritis or h.pylori infection.

This morning I passed a worm 🪱 about 5cm long 😱😱😱 it was dead. Looked a bit like tagliatelle but thinner.

I'm so disgusted, I wash my hands really regularly. Horrified, vaguely amused, stomach feels like it's being eaten from the inside out and now I know why! Dear Lord.

I will phone GP again on Monday to request prescription for tablets to kill it. Until then I KNOW IT IS THERE and it's so disturbing 🤯

Have you lost some weight op?

lljkk · 21/08/2021 12:15

2 years ago is not impossible as when you got ... colonised?

EyebeIbewe · 21/08/2021 12:17

OP I feel for you...

A few months back I ate an entire pack of bare naked noodles in one sitting (whilst drunk) - the next morning I had a hangover poop which looked like a gigantic bloody worm. It took me thirty minutes of sheer panic until I remembered I had had the freaking noodles when I had come home, by which time I had phoned the GP absolutely freaking out.

Literally thought I had shat out a stomach load of intestinal worms or something. I was doing a double check when the GP phoned back, call ended with her stiffling her howls but OH MY GOD.

I have not drunk or eaten anything noodle like since.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

This is one of my fears to be honest. Hope you're okay OP x

Hoppinggreen · 21/08/2021 12:22

This happened to me but I saved it and took it to my GP. He called in a colleague for a second opinion and they agreed it was a bean sprout.
I was surprised because I hadn’t eaten one for a while but apparently they can hang around.

WitchBaby · 21/08/2021 12:22

@ADHDmaybe

Hope you get it sorted, OP

I think it's unlikely to have come from the European countries. But not impossible. My cat is wormed, the rabbits aren't but vet said it wasn't necessary. They've all had vaccinations. Tapeworm doesn't come from pets I don't think.

Rare beef- could be.

Don't worry I will upload the photo as I know you're all dying to see it 🤣

My rabbits had worms, they were a tiny bit larger than a human threadworm, so unlikely to be from them. Hope you get a 111 call back soon and get your stomach issues sorted.

Can you remember eating any undercooked pork?

The thing could have been in there for months.

Sackofnickles · 21/08/2021 12:30

You poor thing. How horrible for you!

I momentarily thought I had worms once when a bean sprout got stuck on the way out. That was traumatic enough.

I’m so sorry but this made me actually laugh out loud. Carefully taking a beansprout out of your poo and solemnly carrying it to the doctors.

I can 100% imagine doing this. And then DP getting home and asking how I got on at the doctors and me having to say it turns out it was a beansprout! 😭

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 21/08/2021 12:31

I do eat pork but don't remember having any that was undercooked. DH does the cooking on the whole. Suppose it could have been slightly underdone.

No appetite, I can't face food as its put me off eating so maybe I'll actually lose some weight finally.

This is all nightmare fuel. I sincerely hope you can get this diagnosed @Invasionofthegutsnatchers. How could you tell it was a worm?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/08/2021 12:33

My arse is itching just reading this….

FelicityBeedle · 21/08/2021 12:33

I’m sure you’d remember if you have, but have you definitely not eaten any bean sprouts, noodles, long wriggling looking things recently?

With the symptoms though… you poor thing

Pinkywoo · 21/08/2021 12:34

When I got DDog as a puppy I was assured by the rescue that he had been wormed but thought I'd make sure. About 2-3 hours after giving him the tablet he threw up a huge pile of what looked like cooked spaghetti, while I ran to get something to pick it up with he ate it (Envy not envy) then pooed the whole lot out again a few hours later. When I told ex DP he also threw up!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 21/08/2021 12:34

It was cream in colour?, thin and like tagliatelle I guess, with a weird horseshoe shape at one end. 5cm long. Not moving.

No itchy arse here

I would go to your local pharmacy, and speak to them about what you can take

Ohhhh a friend of mine at uni had a tapeworm in our first year. Got it while travelling on his gap year. It was both hideous and hilarious (obviously we all had a look when a section.... passed...)

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 21/08/2021 12:39

Beansprout? They’re hardy buggers and often pass through the digestive tract intact.

Theunamedcat · 21/08/2021 12:41

Anyone else clenching at this thread?
