Bonkers or genius?

Background: we have 2 DDs, 8&10years old. After following DHs job around Europe for the past decade, we have recently bought a house and DDs and I have settled down. DH weekly commutes. He will be away Sunday evening to Friday Evening. 3hrs drive for next few months, then 5hrs drive after that.

I jokingly said I was going to book into Premier Inn or similar every few months on the Saturday night for a breather. Just me, my book and no one waking me up. Leaving him and DDs alone.

DH thought I was joking. But I'm warming to the idea. They often go and do stuff at the weekends... but I end up at home catching up on house stuff. The idea of having no obligations for one night is very attractive.

So... bonkers or genius? Due to his job, Dh has had the girls overnight by himself 5 nights total in his life. 4 of those in the past year. This is due to his job, not laziness.

Genius. Take snacks and wine also.

I also think it's important for your DH and DC to spend time together without you as well.

Genius. We used to do this when our children were small and didn't sleep just to have a break and would do it again if needed.

I will definitely take wine.

He does a lit with them. But its on the fun stuff. I'm the one shopping for school uniform or nagging for bedrooms to be tidied. He does the camping and going out in the boat etc. It would just be nice for him to do the everyday stuff occasionally. It will probably morph into takeaway on the sofa or similar. Or his parents coming to help.
