I need help and advice to loose weight

I'm 61 and tonight I went to a family get together. My DD has sent over some photos and a couple of videos of everyone there.
It's hit home that I'm fat and need to loose weight but don't know where to start.
I've never been slim. I'll be weighing myself in the morning as I can tell that the pounds have piled on.
This might be partly because of the tablets I'm taking after having cancer through covid.
I'm not very active but I realise that I must start at least walking.
Has anyone got advice on where to start loosing weight. I've never been on a diet before maybe my eating habits have caught up with me.

Losing weight is almost totally dependent on how many calories you're consuming. Instead of jumping into some diet that you're totally unfamiliar with, I recommend you eat what you're eating now, just cut the amount in half. I would bet your portion sizes are too large, so just eating much less of your regular diet will help. I would also cut out any alcohol and other caloric drinks. No soda, no squash. Stick to water, tea, and black coffee.

Try this for a month and see how it's going.

Given that you have had cancer your metabolism may be out of sorts and embarking on a diet might beat be discussed with your GP to give you a healthy eating plan that would be suitable for you.

To add, with what your been through with your cancer treatment, I think you need to go easy on yourself. A massive diet overhaul overnight may not be good for you. Slow changes while cutting down on volume would be much more sensible and something you'll be more likely to stick with. Good luck!

I weighed myself and I'm 90kg exactly. At 5ft 1 I'm not only classed as fat I'm classed as obese.
I cried when I stepped off those scales.

Poor you. I had the same shock when I stayed at a hotel with a full sized mirror in the bathroom! I hadn't realised how much weight I'd put on.

I started using the app Nutracheck to log everything I ate so I could see what food (and drink!) was using up a lot of my daily calories. I started in June and have lost nearly 1 and a half stone so far.

It's free for the first week so maybe you could log what you eat and see where you can cut back. Like other posters have said it might be worth checking with your GP first though.

Bless you. You've really been through it!

Ask your GP for advice as you've been so I'll recently.

Apart from that, what are your activity levels? Are you still working? If you don't already, take up walking. See if you can walk to everywhere you need to go. You'll get an emotional boost from the exercise and it will increase your muscle tone, health and weight loss.

Good luck to you - you've got this!

Thanks for your replies. I have just been for a short walk.
Even DH was surprised.
