Jill Murphy Author of The Worst Witch has passed away

I am so sad, I absolutely adored these books growing up.

Me too.

So did I! Hope to introduce my daughter to them one day too.

Me too. We used to read them loads, and loved the dodgy 80’s worst witch film too - used to be always acting it out. She was wonderful!

So strange. Dd2 (who is nearly 19!) was watching the worst witch today for the first time in years. Then we heard this on the radio. So sad. Fabulous books and so influential (jk Rowling I'm looking at you!)

My head had bizarrely recast Felicity Jones as Mildred in the 1998 TV prog, but she was the badness of Ethel Hallow!

Oh not just Worst Witch but Peace at Last, Whatever Next, On the Way Home, Large family… loads of classic children’s books.

On the Way Home was my favourite and my DDs’ too.

Loved these books as a kid!! My Mum used to love reading them to me. She’s upset too.

RIP Jill. Such a talented author and illustrator. I loved "On the way home" and The Worst Witch series- not fond of the TV version. The books are the best.

Sorry to hear this! DS and I were only reminiscing about Peace at Last yesterday. We love that book.

Only last week I bought a new copy of some of the Large family books - ready for my first grandchild. I was with my DD and we both remembered loving those stories!

I remember getting the Worst Witch books from the audio library at school and would read along with the cassette tape in the 90s.

DD read the first 3 Harry Potters first which ruined the Worst witch books for her, they just weren't as exciting, I wish we'd done them the other way around.

Ah, sad news. She wrote so many of DDs favourite books. She’s a favourite in this house.

I adored all her books when I was little and the DCs live them too. They are not old enough yet for the worst witch but they live the large family, whatever next and peace at last.
