Ewww, just ran a bath and it was yellow! Do I urgently need to do anything?

Cleaned the tap, no residue. The shower is running clear, as is the kitchen tap, and when I ran the bath tap again it was clear too... is it just a one off thing? Sorry, no one else I can ask!

May mean they are doing work on the water main in the area. Often told to run the kitchen tap for a while to help the water run clear

FreezerBird · 20/08/2021 20:34

Weird then that the kitchen tap is fine. Can you tell whether it was the hot or cold?

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 20:35

It was lukewarmish I think. I put on gloves to empty the plug Envy

Oh you mean the tap Blush It was the hot.

Do you have a hot water cylinder? Have you checked your water board website to see if they are working in the area?

dementedpixie · 20/08/2021 20:38

Would you not be running both the hot and cold water?

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 20:41

No, I only ran the hot and was going to cool it down with a little bit of cold. No work recorded in the area on Scottish Water.

I don't know what a hot water cylinder is Blush

Do you have a combo boiler that fires up every time you turn the hot tap on and heats the water there and then or do you have a big tank somewhere that hold hot water and sometimes runs out of hot water so you have to switch it on for a bit to heat more?

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 20:44

I have a combi boiler!

It's all running clear again. Maybe I've run it out?

When was the last time you ran a bath? We all have showers here, in the en suite, and it's only the dog that gets a bath in the bathroom once in a blue moon and there's always browny/yellowy water to start with.

CoasterCoaster · 20/08/2021 20:46

It will be silt from the pipes, there will have been a leak or repair work somewhere close enough to affect your supply and churn everything up. There will be info on the water company's website about discoloured water and they say it's not harmful to use or even drink although I never do til it's cleared. It's nothing to worry about though OP, happens here from time to time.

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 20:48

You're right, I've not ran a proper deep bath for a while. Ew. It was horrible, I was so looking forward to a soak!

Combi takes water from the mains. I have a hot water cylinder so mine heats a large amount of water and stores it for use when needed.

I am also in Scotland and there has been discoloured water in my area of lanarkshire. Neighbours have been complaining in our group fb chat. Scottish water have said its manganese in the water or something but that it's safe to drink

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 20:57

I've emailed them, thank you. All clear again so I'm hoping it's ran through and cleared.

We get this when they switch from one reservoir to another as it disturbs something and the water comes through yellow for a bit. Just run til clear. Used to happen at least 1-2 times a month in our previous house.

gigi556 · 20/08/2021 21:07

Just seen you mention Scottish water.... you know the water is discolored straight from the tap in a lot of Scotland due to peat in the water? It's normal..

DollyMixtureLulus · 20/08/2021 21:11

That's never happened here... and that bath certainly didn't look normal. Ugh.
