Just want to vent

I've just driven from Surrey to Lancashire - son finished his Masters and returning home.
A 200 mile journey has just taken me 7 hours (usually takes 3.5 hours) - it's been an absolute nightmare.
M25 moving very slowly although that's pretty normal,
M40 was reasonably ok with some congestion - apart from some tosser pulling into the first lane when I was already there and almost running me off the motorway 🙄
M42 was horrendous with multiple accidents, I eventually had to leave the motorway and queue on the jammed roads of Birmingham/Solihull until I got to the M6 toll - that was fine.
M6 was congested all the way, stop-start, from Staffordshire, all through Cheshire to Lancashire.
I'm absolutely exhausted and feeling sorry for myself. I've ordered a KFC because I can't be bothered with anything else.
Sorry for the moan.

I quit my field based job because of the sheer amount of traffic. In the 6 years I was on the road it had increased massively.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/08/2021 19:28

That's horrendous, op. Have a glass of wine. Or two.

YerWanIsGettinNotions · 20/08/2021 19:28

What an ordeal! Enjoy your KFC, you've earned some low effort grub and don't feel crap - sometimes we all need a break!

I hope DS appreciates the effort you go to for him!

ExhaustedDriver · 20/08/2021 19:33

Yep, I think a glass of wine will definitely cheer me up🍷
And son does appreciate it - he was quite concerned really - kept asking me should we stop for a coffee 🙂 - I just wanted to get home.

It’s soulless commuting, even worse commenting without moving.
You are allowed your moan, it’s justified.
I will attempt to make you smile…
Dh is working overseas in an African country, he has to isolate for 10-17 days( not sure as rules keep changing) food is grim ( cheese and peas on bread, stinking fishing ) anyway…he decides he will keep fit and master a handstand ( not sure why, everyone else learns a language and I told him joe wicks would have been better) so first attempt gets up fine but upon return to floor crashes and hits side table and cuts his head open. Stupid bugger.
I’m not sure what the lesson is here but it made me laugh.
Have a glass of nice wine and some chocolate.

Ffs. Commuting….lol.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 20/08/2021 19:38

From sheer bitter experience, I now never tackle a motorway on a Friday. It is always noticeably busier, even outside of the holidays, but worse now because it is a common changeover day for accommodation.

Urgh, it’s getting worse and worse isn’t it, especially the accidents and there’s been some awful ones recently 😢. The m6 was already backing up around the Lancaster junction just after lunch time. Everyone heading to the Lakes I think.

ExhaustedDriver · 20/08/2021 19:41

Yeah, I absolutely didn't want to do a Friday but DS had already booked his leaving-flat inspection.
I had my fingers crossed that we'd be ok, that obviously didn't work.

He is felling very sorry himself, plus has to make up a story of how it happened and the black eye that will follow as he’s working still via zoom.
Anyway, congrats to your son on the masters 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 my eldest starts hers this September .
