Could this top go with a skirt?

I'm worrying about my back-to-the-office wardrobe. I've bought this top, and I think it goes ok with some tailored black trousers I already have, but wondering if I can pair it with a skirt too. I have tried it with a semi-flared a-line mid-length black skirt and couldn't decide. I'm thinking of buying a straight midi-length skirt as I don't currently own one- not sure about colour. Any tips from people who instinctively know what goes with what would be appreciated!

When I read your title I was Confused because the whole point of a top is to go with another piece of clothing. Having looked at the photo - I see what you mean. That peplum / ruffle thing, which really should have started at the waist, (along with the wide neck and indecisive sleeves) does make it a bit flouncy to wear with the generality of skirts. The proportions are all wrong. I can only imagine it working with a skirt if it were mostly disguised by a cardigan, or jacket, leaving only a little of the neckline showing.

With a straight skirt it’s going to look dowdy on its own - and the ruffle makes it impossible to tuck in, either partially or all the way round.

I don’t think it’s much of a bargain - sorry!Grin

That said, I almost certainly wouldn’t notice it if you were standing in front of me. I’ve only formed an opinion because you’ve invited me to give the matter consideration!

It would be great with trousers but I don't think the peplum is going to work with a skirt.

It could work with a pencil skirt.

This is out of stock but I would wear that top with a long, slim fitting pencil skirt.

The peplum is going to really limit the top's versatility. If you want more options, then I'd return and buy something else tbh, OP.

Depends on your body shape. I'm an hour glass shape and that top with a skirt would not suit me at all!

Only with a pencil skirt!
