Lost documents

If you found some important documents (two passports and a birth certificate, no money) at an UK airport, what would you do?

I lost them on Wednesday (but only just realised Hmm). I have called the lost property number and they say nothing has been handed in yet, which I find odd (and worrying!).

Would you take them with you and call the police maybe?
One was a Brittish passport, if that makes any difference.
None of the papers had addresses or phone numbers on them.

I know that when I've found stuff on trains, etc, I either hand it to the driver or take it with me if I think I can locate the owner.

Any other ideas?

You should report the pasaport as lost so they can be stopped and get new ones ordered

I would have made it known to airport staff, because logically the person who has lost them would be asking staff if anybody had found them.

thank you

well, I've called and been to the airport and nothing has been found or handed in. So someone must have found them and taken them with them.... Confused

In an airport I'd hand them in. However I know someone who found an iPhone of mine that was together with a library ID, found my (unusual) name on facebook and sent a message - unfortunately it went into spam and we never found it, but they then handed it into the police and we got it back that way. However, maybe check facebook/any work email addresses that might come up if ou google the names?

In theory, you can sell passports/birth certs on the black market, but I can't imagine how you'd go about knowing how to do that unless you were already a bit dodgy so the likelihood of it being found by someone who was dodgy and knew how to sell it seems low.

If you lost them nearly a week ago, how can you be so sure where?

@leakymcleakleak, you see that's exactly what I would have done - if I found important docuemnts I would google the names and try to get in touch with them. I have an unusual name and I am the first link that comes up when you search for it.

Re. where I lost them - I had them in my hand me after we went through immigration control. Went to the toilet, picked the luggage and met DH who was waiting for us outside. He says I was not holding anything except my suitcase and backpack.

My guess is that I left them in the toilet Blush

Oh man how frustrating for you. Definitely report the passports as lost (sod's law they will then turn up)
