Small school trousers

My very small 4 year old is just about to start reception. I was banking on M&S slim fit age 2-3 trousers fitting him but they're just too loose (even with the inside button at it's tightest).

He wear an age 3-4 in joggers (that have a draw string) but school trousers come up huge (my daughter has the same problem but she wears dresses so we don't need to worry about school clothes). The issue with my children is they are slim and have tiny bottoms so everything falls down.

Has anyone seen any smart grey joggers in any shops that could pass as school trousers, possibly without a cuff on the legs( it's a local primary, they're not going to be overly strict with this).

Or does anyone have any other ideas, we've tried Asda as people have suggested there previously.

Thank you

Not joggers but maybe you could buy some smart grey toddler trousers (like if they were going to a wedding)

Hopefully they'll all be on sale as it's coming to the end of summer.

Next slim fit seems smaller than M&S. Gap used to do a slim fit , not sure if they still do.
French brands are much slimmer than UK brands, so have a look at La Redoute or any other french brand.

There are various different slim fit trousers for M&S, I think slim fit skinny leg are the smallest.

I got M&S skinny fit for ds. They are a closer fit that the slim. They are not by any means skin tight though, not like skinny jeans I mean. The waist will be the same as the slim fit though, if that's your problem.

Ponkypig282 · 20/08/2021 13:31

Next was always our go to when DS was younger. He's 12 now and finally wearing the correct age clothes!

DownWhichOfLate · 20/08/2021 13:33

As PP laredoute are slimmer fitting. Or try girl’s legging trousers. Or these perhaps: www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/kids-ultra-stretch-active-joggers-434157.html?dwvar_434157_color=COL03&dwvar_434157_size=KAG110&cgid=IDk-trousers-sweatpants-shorts&hassubcat=false

Or shorts? At least until the colder weather!

These come up quite large (as in by age) so the 2-3 might even fit!

ineedaholidaynow · 20/08/2021 13:40

DS always had Next trousers

Fabuleuse · 20/08/2021 13:40

M&S school trousers are absolutely massive. My tall 7 year old is still in 6-7 slim fit when he wears 8-9 or 9-10 in normal clothes. I'd try just about any other uniform shop.

HickoryDickoryDot · 20/08/2021 13:40

H&M have a few pairs of dark grey joggers in their baby section in 3-4.

Uniqlo toddler leggings are really slim waisted too and their dark grey ones are the same colour as school trousers.

Lindex has some dark grey sweatpants that are good for small waists but they’re pretty thick and fleecy lined.

Good luck with the search! I have the same predicament too! Hoping to get away with some H&M joggers.

NerrSnerr · 20/08/2021 13:47

Thanks all. Am going to order a pair from Next and if they're too little I'm going to get some joggers.

We already tried these unfortunately and they're huge (and far too big). It's ridiculous as he's small but he's not as small as a 1 year old!

What about these @NerrSnerr, they come in age 3?

xksismybestletter · 20/08/2021 17:52

My little boy wore shorts for almost all of reception for this reason. Withlong socks he was plenty warm enough and pretty gorgeous looking

This does look gorgeous on small children.

M&S continue to be more shit than ever. They used to do excellent slim fit. Now they seem to think that slim leg is the same thing and their true slim fit is never in stock.

As he gets older, get their long leg trousers 3 years younger. Sorry you have to wait a while!!

I also found Sainsbury school stuff was a much slimmer fit than elsewhere.

BuckarooWithBruceGrobelaar · 20/08/2021 22:59

I feel your pain. DS was always tiny and even the smallest sizes were too big. Do you know anyone who does alterations? That was my only hope (my mum is amazing with a sewing machine)

Figmentofimagination · 20/08/2021 23:19

What M&S slim fit school trousers did you try? There are a few different ones and they are all slightly different waist sizes. I'm not doubting they don't fit, just checking you tried all the options.

My DS is starting school as well, he's currently in 18-24month trousers/joggers day to day as he has no backside and a tiny waist. I've bought the following age 2-3 slim fit trousers from M&S (and then shortened them by 10cm as they are waaaayyyy to long)

There is also these super skinny slim fit trousers - https://www.marksandspencer.com/super-skinny-slim-fit-trousers-9-18-years-/p/clp60450625?intid=mobileappppdpshare

You could also try Next but I think they start at age 3 for school trousers

BastardMonkfish · 20/08/2021 23:27

Why are school trousers so big fitting? My 4 year old is in age 4-5 trousers but school size 4-5 is swimming on him!

spicychickenwing · 21/08/2021 00:10

Marks and spencers slim fit are huge.

I have a very slim one and for the past 6 years i buy him next slim fit slim leg. It has to be the double slim. They are much less bulky then any others i have found and start from age 3.
