The first day of term

Is anyone else dreading the first day of term? My son is 4 and it will be his first day of reception on the 8th of September. I'm absolutely dreading it. We're both good sleepers and really aren't morning people.
Has anyone got any tips on making it more bearable?

Do as much as possible the night before (bags packed, uniform laid out) etc.
Establish a routine as quickly as possible. So it might be: get up, have breakfast, wash, dress, last minute check, leave house.

Have everything ready the night before.
Give yourself plenty of time to do everything.
Get yourself dressed and ready before DC get up.
Do not expect DC to just get on with getting ready. Be prepared to hound them incessantly.
Get everyone dressed and ready before going downstairs to have breakfast. There is some strange paranormal force at play that makes mornings take much longer if you go downstairs first.
Never deviate from the routine. DH deviates from the routine and then wonders why all hell breaks lose.

I thought this was going to be because you were worried about him starting school not because you're going to miss your lie in 😄 Don't worry, you'll be fine. Set an alarm, get uniform and bag ready the might before. No TV in the morning.

Full uniform hung up upstairs, teeth and hair brushed before coming down or risk running up and down like a headless chicken. Bags near the door having packed them the night before. Be very enthusiastic about the school dinners, they’re free and relieve the ball ache from making sandwiches.

Breakfast is ideally something that can’t be spilled, usually down the only clean jumper.

If you’re having to drive find the perfect time to get there so you can still get parked within a mile but don’t need to get there 30mins early to do so.

Always have more than one alarm clock incase it lets you down.
