Bed linen that won't be discontinued?

Hi. I just wondered if anyone had any bright ideas for nice bed linen that won't be discontinued? I currently have Soak and Sleep 400tc in a natural light beige-y colour - it's brilliant, has lasted for ages, but is pain when you spoil (yet another!) pillowcase and cannot just buy a spare that matches. I'd like a new set in a similar natural light beige-y colour - not white or grey which currently seem to be all the rage (well, white is classic I know), but one that will not be discontinued for many years to come. Is this even a possibility? I'm thinking like Denby crockery - you smash one plate in the set and you can just buy another without having to replace the whole set, as the designs have been the same for decades. Or Viners cutlery - you lose a teaspoon (or five!) and you can buy just a teaspoon, as again the designs have been the same for decades. Is there an equivalent for bed linen? Many thanks in advance for any input!

Can you just buy a couple of spare pillow cases when you buy it?

AndSoFinally · 20/08/2021 15:02

Surely the colours wouldn't quite match after a long time anyway? Don't they fade in the wash so the new one wouldn't match?

MrsH201 · 20/08/2021 17:08

Good point about colours not quite matching, but I don’t think I would mind that. My husband and I each have our own king sized duvet (cover), so that’s two of those, plus spares of everything for washing and soon you’re looking at hundreds of pounds for a whole new set of bed linen.

Yes, I did indeed buy many, many spare pillow cases! 😂

It was just a thought. Maybe there is no equivalent. I just wondered if there was something obvious I was missing. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Smile

How are you spoiling so many pillow cases?

MrsH201 · 20/08/2021 18:14

Nose bleeds mainly

Possibly john Lewis in a more basics range.

It's probably difficult to find an exact colour match later anyway as each batch will be dyed and there are always minor difference between dye batches - plus the issue of the existing set fading as others have said, too.

Personally I like to go for a deliberately mismatched look but I know that's not for everyone.

Buying extras and keeping them all in circulation so they get washed the same amount is probably your best bet.

We have 2 pillows each, One to sleep on and an extra one for propping ourselves up to read/watch tv.
I put the matching pillowcases on the pillows that we use to prop ourselves up and use cheaper, plain pillowcases to sleep On (I normally buy them to match the sheet)

SpacePotato · 20/08/2021 18:25

How many pillows do you each have? We have 2 each. I use the ones that match duvet covers and give DP plain, easily replaceable ones as his head sweat/hair gel destroy them or make them orange.

When making the bed I just stick the nice ones on the top.

Disrespected · 20/08/2021 18:27

We don't sleep on the 'top' pillow always swap so sleeping on the plain white one underneath. Would that be a solution.

dannydyerismydad · 20/08/2021 19:09

I never sleep on the pillowcase that come with a duvet cover.

I buy plain ivory pillowcases and put them on my sleeping pillows and replace as needed.

BeautyQueenIamNot · 20/08/2021 19:12

I always buy extra pillowcases.

Also as other poster do buy cheap plain one and use those to sleep on looks at dh and his sweaty head and replace them as and when needed

starfishmummy · 20/08/2021 19:17

Just use any old pillowcases. You can't see them when you are asleep.

MrsH201 · 20/08/2021 19:34

Okey dokey... no suggestions of classic brands that do the same bed linen year in year out then. Lots of practical suggestions however. Thank you for the replies.

By the way remove Denby from your list. I decided to replace my cheap every day set with a Denby Light and Shade range. It was new in. I therefore assumed it would be around for years to come. No 3 years later gone!!

Carycy · 20/08/2021 20:54

Aggre. My Denny set is gone too. A very classic range.

Carycy · 20/08/2021 21:03

Denby

WingBingo · 20/08/2021 21:09

Buy white. Had to mismatch then.

HalzTangz · 20/08/2021 21:12

Retailers introduce new ranges at least twice a year, I don't know of any that keep a product on sale for many years.

womaninatightspot · 20/08/2021 21:15

I'd just buy the white version on soak and sleep and go for slightly mismatched tbh

womaninatightspot · 20/08/2021 21:16

I would say I've been buying the 200tc white soak and sleep from when it was dapw and it's always the same. I just pop on a colourful throw and cushions for that pop of colour.

MrsH201 · 21/08/2021 21:12

How sensible. That sounds like a great idea.
