anybody know how much the fine is/ how many points I'll get? I'm 53, never had one in 30 years of driving....idiot.

@Howshouldibehave

The fine is a percentage of your weekly wage

I didn’t know that! How do they know how much you earn-nobody ever asked DH that?

I don't think it is.

Mine was £75 (ten years ago?) and the speed awareness course was the same amount as the fine.

Fortunately I had done it locally as you have to do the course in the county where you "offended". Not much good if you were caught on holiday in Cornwall but you live in Newcastle.

@ichundich

(1) The fine is cheaper than the course. (2) If your insurance premium goes up as a result of you taking the points rather than doing the course, there will be extra VAT due, which goes to, you guessed it, the government. (3) There is evidence that many people take plenty away from a SAC, becoming more considerate drivers.
Would definitely agree with your point 3) - my course chap was excellent, we explored reasons why you speed (many), possible negative outcomes (lots), time you actually save by speeding (not a lot!) and ways to cope when you are targeted by a tailgater/under pressure from employer/stressed etc.

The courses are now online and they reckon it will take about 2 and a half hours with a ten minute break. I am doing one in September
Was deeply ashamed, it is a long straight road, houses one side, a park the other and I was clocked at 35 on a warm dry day. I think it is partly because I have not been driving as much since lockdown and have lost my inner speedometer. But it’s no excuse, I know the road and should have checked my speed.

My sister was always rushing everywhere and got clocked. She did the speed course and she really got a lot out if it. She became quite fucking annoying evangelistic about not speeding. Worked for her. Misery for the rest of us!.
