I have been reading this as Blitzer for about 8 years until my friend queried this the other day 😬

"Bitzer" was a common name for a mongrel dog, I thought?

Loved those books. I may still have one or two of them from when DS was small (he's 24 now so don't think he wants to read them any more!). They are looking a little dog eared now though 😁

As I’ll never read it again as daughter is 11, I shall stay saying Blitzer (although actually it does make sense now). I even misread Bitzer as Biter though initially so no hope. This is a bit like when someone tells you what the real words to a song are!! Meatloaf isn’t the gasboard light apparently it’s dashboard!!!

In fairness, I have spent a lot of today trying to get 6 year old DD to pronounce the 'n' in 'Schnitzel Von Krum'

Love, love LOVE the Hairy Maclary books. Thanks to my own four kids, and working this year in a special school class where one pupil was obsessed with them.... I can do every single one from memory (not a very useful skill but still!)

And now have a baby grandson so I can start over with him!
My favourite is 'Basket Work' when Schnitzel Von Krum hates his new bed :)

We use to call my DS this because he was skinny and bony! I know these off by heart!

Ahh but they bow in the face of Slinkey Malinky who can Open The Door .

My own two Slinky Malinkys are raging that I have round ceramic doorhandles that they cannot leap on to lever open (and they're a bit on the chubby side anyway)

We found the DVD in Woolworths when DD was a toddler, and were most taken aback to hear the narrator tell the stories in laid-back New Zealand tones. My own style was always a bit more breakneck, with the dogs rushing away from Scarface Claw.
