Day in Doncaster - no kids

What can I do in/around Doncaster today? No kids, I'll be there 10-2.30pm, and don't know the area at all. Stuck for ideas! At the moment my plan is to cafe hop all day but it feels a bit of a waste.

The new museum is ideal to pass a couple of hours if you are town centre? Definitely head to dreambakes and the glass strawberry if cafe hopping. Both good for lunch.

Seconded for the new museum.

In the French gate centre theres a shop near the Sainsburys called Chuckling Cheese or something like that that sells amazing fudge.

Are you stuck in the centre or have you got transport? There's the South Yorkshire Air Museum, Lakeside Outlet Centre, you could do Watersports at Hatfield Lake, Ice Skating at the Dome...

Thanks for the ideas so far! I will have my car but will have already driven a distance so don't want to go too much further. Not in the centre but could go in if it's easy enough for parking.

I only really know the centre as have been for work but it's nice enough for a potter, there's a Minster to look at too. Chucking cheese is nice! Generally lots to do around if you drive depending on what you like doing, there is a nature reserve near lakeside, walking around the lake or shopping in the outlet centre all very close to town. Where abouts will you be and we could suggest more close to where you are.

Find a pub (not hard) and get very drunk

Doncaster has Park and Ride.

There's also Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

ComeonJulia · 20/08/2021 08:20

Yorkshire wildlife park or drive to meadowhall in Sheffield.

Hehe the pub would be nice but I will be driving later! I'll be on the lakeside side of Doncaster so might pop there - good to know about the nature reserve as I don't think I can shop for the entire time! Is there a park and ride near there to get into the centre?
Also liking the sound of the air museum

I feel like the air museum might be within walking distance of lakeside. I have parked near the dome and walked around the lake before but it's only an hour or so walk and you can drive or walk to the shops but I'm not a shopper either so I haven't spent much time there myself. I'm not sure about where the park and ride is. Town has parking but it's all paid, worth it for the museum though and only 10 min drive from lakeside.

I did go to Lakeside after all, which was nice and stress-free and I managed to do a bit of shopping while killing time. Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Potteric Carr nature reserve - it's a Wildlife Trusts nature reserve, nice cafe for lunch with a view and lovely walks. Air Museum also very good - no cafe there though, take a picnic.
