We've got an overnight stopover and day in Stirling coming up. Any must sees?

With dc?

FanGirlFoof · 19/08/2021 22:19

No DC will be with grandparents so DP and I are going to have a tourist day and go for a nice lunch somewhere too.

Stirling castle js an interesting visit for a morning/afternoon- much quieter this year too with fewer foreign tourists around.

Blair Drummond is good with DC. All the popular animals + a fantastic playground.

Wallace monument, bannockburn, the castle is my fave.

Not sure if they have had it on this year but Wallace Monument did re-enactments!! Was brilliant!!

BashfulClam · 19/08/2021 22:24

Stirling castle is awesome.

FanGirlFoof · 19/08/2021 22:32

Thank you and any recommendations for a nice lunch?

There is a decent afternoon tea at the Japanese garden

Thanks all. Can anyone explain the wheel and kelpies to me pls? Is it the same attraction or do you have to visit one and then travel to the other?

Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies are separate - about 5 miles from each other - and about 15-20 minutes from Stirling.
Don't know what direction you're travelling from but the Kelpies are very visible from the M9 motorway at Grangemouth.

The No 2 (corner of Friars St and Baker St) is good for lunches.

Places to visit … Europa Music (in Friars St) is the best record shop in Scotland (according to DH).

Re the Japanese garden, I’ve been and there’s fuck all there! Also it’s around 45 minutes by car from Stirling. Longer on the (infrequent) bus service.

Ok……..my mistake @MacmillanMO
