Ticket to ride, dixit and forbidden island/ forbidden desert are all great.

Bells3032 · 19/08/2021 11:00

Pandemic and catan are great games

UnfinishedBunting · 19/08/2021 11:01

We like Othello, Cluedo (both the normal one and the Harry Potter one, they're quite different), and Pandemic. We really like jigsaws too.

Ticket to Ride is great. Also what about quick fire games like Dobble and Uni?

I LOVE Ticket to Ride but weirdly board game loving 10-year-old DD really doesn't like it. But I think it's worth a go, it's a really good game. We also like:
Cataan
Dixit
Cluedo
Labyrinth
Pictionary
Pointless (though we have to be selective about questions to give DD a chance)
Pictureka
Dobble

We're really enjoying Micro Macro Crime City at the moment. It's a big city map, and you have to solve crimes by finding characters in the map and tracing their journeys. Collaborative and short (about 15 mins for each case), which is enough to prise the kids off their screens.

River dragons would be fun for him, and doesn’t take too long to play. I love rhino hero too and think a 9yo might enjoy that.
I loved the game of life, go for broke and boggle around your DSs age.

I bought this in the late 80s for my daughter, her own children now love playing with it.

Mrspimplepopper · 19/08/2021 12:09

Wow thankyou so much, I'm off to Google all of them.

Ticket to Ride
Labyrinth
Scotland Yard

Bought them last year during various lockdowns and all were enjoyed by the whole family. 6yr old loves Ticket to Ride and Scotland Yard most, 10yr old loved Labyrinth. I love them all.

terrywynne · 19/08/2021 12:17

Carcassone could be good.

There's a board game trade and chat UK Facebook group. Some of the members are very very serious about their games (and game rooms, storage etc) but they are very knowledgeable if you want ideas. And, as the name suggests, people use the group to trade or sell games. Also good because they are all so knowledgeable, they will comment if they think someone is asking too much for a second hand game so it doesn't feel like you'd get ripped off (disclaimer I haven't bought anything from there, I just lurk for the ideas).

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 19/08/2021 12:23

Labyrinth is our current favourite.

Fiddliestofsticks · 19/08/2021 12:30

Yamatai is my 8 year olds favourite (and mine!)
Champions of Midgard is my 10 year olds favourite.
We all are totally in love with Above and Below.
Pirates Cove is a good bit of fun.
Santorini is brilliantly simple.
El Dorado is a great deck builder
Clank is the best deck builder. Lots of expansions available as well.
Smallworld is one we always go back to at least once a week. Just brilliant and expansions available.
Zombie Kids is great.

Hare and Tortoise is our newest and has become a fast favourite.

Card games like Goat Lords and The Crew; The Quest for Planet Nine are great fun.

Throw throw Burrito if you want something a more active (and slightly violent).

Fiddliestofsticks · 19/08/2021 12:35

If you like collaborative then try Robinson Crusoe.

I have played literally hundreds of board games and that is up there in the top 10. As a collab game, it is just so much fun.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/08/2021 12:38

Splendor
Exploding kittens?

ignatiusjreilly · 19/08/2021 12:42

My 9 year old DS says these are his current favourites:

Carcassonne
Go Nuts for Donuts
Labyrinth
Pandemic

froomeonthebroom · 19/08/2021 12:42

Sequence, Carcassonne and Rummikub are favourites with my 14 and 10 yo DSs
