Hana Contraceptive Pill

I’ve just seen this advertised on tv. A contraceptive available without prescription.

Does anyone use this? I have been meaning to sort my contraception out for ages but it’s a nightmare trying to get an appointment with the GP and I’ve just never got round to it.

Now I’m thinking I might pick up a pack?

It’s just the progesterone only pill. Good that women can access contraception more easily with pharmacies that have signed up for this dispensing scheme (I’m assuming by pharmacist prescribers) but the mark up is enormous!

If you don’t mind paying, and can absorb the cost regularly then go for it. I do wonder if the advisory process will be as comprehensive as it ought to be, and that women will be warned of potential side effects etc regarding POPs.

I haven't seen that particular pill but I buy mine online through a pharmacy for convenience. Pre-covid it was so difficult to get an appointment with my GP and when I finally got through they got really annoyed if I couldn't take the first appointment they suggested then absolutely irate if I couldn't take the second (I work and have to fit absences around the team). When they switched to telephone appointments I tried again but then they me a 4 hour slot when they might call. Obviously they called when I'd gone to the toilet at work without my phone. They recorded it as Did Not Attend, left a message saying I'd need to rebook an appointment and warning me that I need to cancel if I'm not available so someone who needs the appointment can take it. I've officially given up and pay about £35 every 3 months to save my sanity. I live in a village so there aren't any other options.

It's not quite as simple as just pick up a pack. You need to find a pharmacy with stock and a pharmacist who is trained to sell it. It is unlikely to be a prescribing pharmacist as it's just a sale but there is a fair bit of initial paperwork. If you can absorb the cost, it may be suitable but I struggle with having to buy contraception that should be free.

I also saw the advertisement on tv and went the next day to my local boots and picked up a 3month pack. Took the first lot till period was due… then…I have continued that same period for over 3 weeks!! 😩😩 I’m sure it’s not the same for everyone but I sure am looking forward to coming off this period 😅 every time I think it is coming to an end it starts up again. It does say it takes 3 months to settle…might take a trip to pharmacy to check it’s all ok, certainly don’t want to have this for 3 months 🙏. I have had a mini pill years ago but had different side effects with that so if I don’t get on well then I might switch. But yeah..just a word of warning that if it Happens to any of you then I guess it’s normal 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was looking into this pull as it says it doesn't affect your sex drive. Been on cerelle for years and it's killed my mojo. Dr said she won't recommend it as she knows nothing about it. Its sold at boots pharmacy so it should be OK right?

I have actually been using this pill ( hana) for 6 weeks now. I have tried other mini pills apparently they had the same ingredients (cerelle and cerazette) in the past and have had rubbish side effects. Everything with this one seems to be going well so far, apart from a bit of spotting. In fact I feel better than I have in a while. Perhaps you get what you pay for. My gp was adamant that I wouldn’t get different side effects from cerelle and cerazette as they are the same thing. But I did… and apparently a lot of other people do too. Perhaps the quality of the ingredients vary? All I know is this one is going well and I’ve paid just shy of £20 for 3 months supply and that’s absolutely worth it if it works for you.

My friend wants to take this, as she can't have the combined Pill anymore, due to high blood pressure, and being a 'bit chunky'; also, she's in her mid-forties. She doesn't have natural periods and never has. When she could take the combi, she would bleed. Does this make you bleed? She really wants to, as she says it makes her feel more like a woman. Any help would be appreciated x

I'm on Hana, and am fine now, no periods at all and no problems, but will say that the first month of taking it was pretty bad, bled heavily for about 3 weeks straight and was on the verge of giving up, when it all just stopped, and like I said no problems since - healthexpress.co.uk/desogestrel

It's the same drug as cerelle, just a different brand name
