I don't sell things on Facebook because of the "Is it available / Do you deliver to x town 50 miles away / Will you take 10% of the asking price" crowd.
But, there is a local group I'm in where everything is free, with the aim of recycling / being environmentally friendly. I've given away loads of toys / kids clothes etc on there, and normally it works well.
However, yesterday I posted that I had some items to give away. Let's say books for the sake of not being outing, but it's actually something very, very, cheap. Each one different. Lots of people messaged claiming the books. Fine. Told them I'd leave them in my outhouse for them to collect.
Went to work, got a message from one person saying that the item they wanted wasn't there.
Turns out some CF has taken several of the items alongside the one that asked for. Could be one of two people that I knew were coming to collect this morning.
I apologise to the person who missed out, who was lovely about it, then messaged another person who was coming later to advise their item was gone. This person is one of the group admins and immediately wants to do some sort of investigation, bombarding me with questions. Have to politely explain that I'm not naming anyone because I don't know who the culprit is.
Does anyone else find these groups such hard work? Is there a better alternative for giving stuff away when charity shops aren't taking donations?
