Induction - Polyhydramnios Advice?

Hello,

I am being induced today as my baby has been measuring big throughout pregnancy and following a scan yesterday they are currently measuring in at 9lbs 10oz. I had a scan at 36 weeks and my fluid was at 8.2 but they weren’t too worried as said baby may not have drunk yet/been caught at a bad moment etc. My scan yesterday put their fluid at 10.5 and now they’ve written ‘polyhydramnios’ on my notes.

No one mentioned anything about what this word means to me at the hospital yesterday but they have swiftly booked me in for an induction today as said they’re worried about the chord coming out when my waters break/worried about the baby’s shoulders getting damaged in the process of childbirth as this is my first.

I’ve Googled the meaning of polyhydramnios on top of that and completely freaked myself out with other issues that I could potentially face ie genetic disabilities etc. All of my scans have shown a healthy baby so far and no sign of cleft lip or anything. Please also note I have not been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes - although the last time they tested my blood sugars was around 28 weeks I believe so not sure if it can develop after? I assume so.

Has anyone been through a similar experience? How was the induction for you and should I be more worried about this polyhydramnios issue?
I’m really scared as this is my first baby, I have no idea what to expect and my partner won’t be allowed to be there for the first part of labour due to Covid rules. X

Good luck today! I don’t know anything other than what is on the NHS website, as I’m up early. This is what it says, I hope it puts your mind at ease. Again good luck. I was induced with my 3rd baby and it was not a bad experience at all (& my husband was at home with our other two children for all but the last 10 minutes, I had to ring him to come back to the hospital).
