Why is Amazon Prime doing this?

Harriedharriet · 18/08/2021 03:37

We have Amazon Prime. Almost every show it throws up for us to watch invloves a NEW subscription for 5.00/6.99/10.99 or some such per month. Loads of different chanels. Hardly anything is actually with Prime, and already included in our subscription.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Seems like they are promoting this stuff, and trying to get every last penny out of us!!

Yes, it’s really irritating. I’ve already paid and I don’t want to pay again. I rarely use it because it doesn’t have much I want that I can view (I got it initially for the free postage).

Bargebill19 · 18/08/2021 04:40

Yep. And as a result are seriously considering stopping using it. We worked out we just break even on just using prime for postage. But really few this is a step to far and may just suck up the internet xtra in postage AND not us amazon at all - but buy from other internet sellers. Tbh, the product quality has gone down lately, so we are already sourcing from other sites if I can’t get what we want in store.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 18/08/2021 04:41

Yes, I know. I got it originally for the free postage. I did get seduced into paying extra for BritBox, so I will know what ya'll are talkin' about on Mumsnet. Wink

Not just us then. I think I am going to get rid of all of Amazon.
Maybe he had to do that to pay for his space ride? Grin

I dislike the way they treat their workers so it is a good time to put that beast to bed.

I HATE to be manipulated!

Yep. Just resist. It will turn up for "free" sooner or later. I use amazon all the time so just see it as am added extra and there have been some good stuff on there.

Miliao · 18/08/2021 05:57

On the top tabs, just click on ‘free for me’. Problem sorted!

Cazzovuoi · 18/08/2021 05:59

We hardly use it because of the way they manage the content. We live in a non English speaking country and movies and tv shows are almost always dubbed with no subtitles and no option to change the language despite it being a Hollywood film!!! Some have the option others don’t. It’s so annoying.

It’s a fecking digital file, making the original language available or at least English subtitles should be easy. It’s lazy.

Cazzovuoi - I just screeched with laughter at your username! Very funny!! Thank you - I needed a laugh.

Yeah was going to say click the free to me 😁

Oohstickyouyourmummatoo · 18/08/2021 13:47

The amount of times my children choose something to watch then moan that it needs to be paid for I feel like all I do is shout "click on free to meeee!!"
It is annoying and I think they need to rearrange the format to make it more user friendly and obvious rather than trying to trick us.

Lipsandlashes · 18/08/2021 13:52

Yep ‘free to me’. I never see anything I have to pay for - unless I’m specifically searching for something and it’s not free

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 18/08/2021 13:55

I only ever watch the free stuff, other stuff ends up on there free sooner or later
Bonus is that it's ex dps subscription haha I don't even know how it's on my telly Grin

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/08/2021 13:56

Free To Me is a recently new thing, and I think the problem is the really poor layout and all the "channels" stuff should be shunted to a section you have to choose if you want it

Apple TV has a similarly really poor layout seemingly determined to confuse. I have got rid of that now.

err this is Amazon, they exist to make money. Have you not noticed that despite paying for prime often stuff available with prime delivery is more expensive?

Bargebill19 · 18/08/2021 17:05

Kind of related. Ordered some stuff yesterday (I know…). Thinking amazon prime always delivers, only they didn’t because the twats sent amazon prime stuff by Hermes. Hermes don’t deliver here. So it’s gone back.
Yes there are clear where to leave my stuff if I’m not in directions.
We don’t order anything via Hermes or dpd or dhl for this reason.

Mooloolabababy · 18/08/2021 17:33

Yeah it pisses me off that I'm watching a paid for service and I feel like they're trying flog me more stuff all the time, it's like they just want more out of you! That's why I much prefer Netflix cause you just get what you've paid for, not trying to sell you something else!

Spectre8 · 18/08/2021 18:09

Don't see the issue

After featured the first two categories are Included with Prime so its at the top then after that might be one rent or buy followed by another 3 or 4 categories that are included in prime.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 18/08/2021 18:18

Something's got to pay for Jeff to fly to the moon.

rc22 · 18/08/2021 18:49

I've only recently got Amazon Prime partly for free delivery and partly as friend had gone on so much about 'This is Us,' I thought I'd give it a go!! I was shocked that it wasn't like Netflix where once you pay your subscription, you can watch everything on there.

I have paid 99p a month for a free trial of Hayu to catch up with Real Housewives because I have absolutely no taste Grin Once I've done that I'll cancel it.
