International Post - is it taking ages?

I ordered some cards from the US 8 weeks ago and they haven't arrived yet. I didn't pay extra for tracked / air Mail as the total price of the goods was only £7.50. I noticed a friend had posted something on FB saying she had posted a birthday card from Aus to U.K. and it had taken 10 weeks to arrive. Apparently it's to do with delays at customs, rather than the respective postal services. Anyone else noticed this?

Must just be me then 😁. Suspect they've gone missing but they weren't urgent or expensive.

Yep - I am waiting on a parcel from the USA - spent 3 weeks waiting for a plane from LA - now waiting to get out of Heathrow.

Another tracked parcel is still sitting in Italy awaiting - 2 weeks....

A parcel I sent to Switzerland a few months back took 6 weeks ...

You are not alone.

ShitShop · 18/08/2021 16:20

I’ve had parcels from Thailand and China recently that have got here quicker than usual tbh! Not bought from US though.

Galassia · 18/08/2021 16:23

I have a parcel coming from Italy that was ordered in August 4th, and have been given the delivery dates of the last couple of days in August.

niceupthedanceagain · 18/08/2021 16:32

Australia post has been long as they don't have many flights out

West coast US also taking long (getting stuck in LA etc) but if it's coming via east coast seems to be ok

We regularly send cards to the UK, usually several in a larger envelope. Sometimes they takeover a month to arrive (from Canada).

It has been slower since Covid.

NuffSaidSam · 18/08/2021 17:07

I'm also awaiting a parcel from the US, it's taken a while but it is now with Hermes apparently...

Feather12 · 18/08/2021 17:11

I am in the US and post is taking forever to get to the UK. I have received two packages from the UK in the last couple of weeks that took less than 3 days though!

isthismylifenow · 18/08/2021 17:18

Our postal system is notoriously awful. I'm I'm SA. My mum sent dd a birthday card and we received it 18 months later.

Half the cards never even arrived to this day, so I had to ask my Mum to not post anymore for the grandkids and that I would just buy one here and sign it off.

Soon to be chucked over a fence into someone else's garden then 😂.

Oh well, maybe my cards will arrive in time for next year's birthdays then. They are to do with a hobby that some friends and I share, unusual cards that I hadn't seen before. I thought they'd make nice birthday cards.

DP said he ordered something from France a month ago and it hasn't turned up yet either.

Sent birth announcement card (postcard) for DD to nz aus California and Texas and all arrived within about 14 days.

However birthday card in an envelope took a month to NZ and a parcel from April is still missing (didn’t do tracked as contents were sentimental ie DC Easter crafts for DGP rather than valuable)

Babysharkdoodoodood · 19/08/2021 20:23

I got my Xmas card (last years) from my sister in NZ last month. Grin

😂

MauveMagnolia · 20/08/2021 11:07

Sent a parcel to east coast USA last Friday. Arrived on Thursday. About back to pre cv19 times of 5-7 days I would say.

Pythonesque · 20/08/2021 11:11

I had an Old Girls' newsletter dated April arrive at the very end of July (from Sydney to UK).

Still waiting for some stuff my mother posted me only a little after that. She posted something else registered mail at the beginning of the month ...

HPLikecraft · 20/08/2021 11:35

I’ve had two things delivered from India recently... both took about six days! Very quick.

May be just some places.

DerAlteMann · 20/08/2021 11:43

Ordered 2 parcels from the US. The first took 6 weeks. The second (from the same firm) took 10 days. Stuff from Ireland is arriving quicker that it did pre-Brexit. No idea what's going on. It seems totally random.

YellowMonday · 20/08/2021 12:44

A little thing called a global pandemic impacting global supply chains, including freight and mail.

I ordered something else from the US and it arrived in 10 days, yesterday. The cards that I ordered 10 weeks ago still haven't arrived. It is random.
