If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

Pure escapism thread = Money no object and assuming your family would move with you, or you could see them regularly?

(Ie. "Barbados because I love the beach life" answer's rather than "Coventry, cause gran lives there" Grin)

I would have a house in Bergen or somewhere similar near the coast in Norway. But I would also like a beachfront place in Costa Rica or Florida.

SisterAgatha · 18/08/2021 16:29

House in Highgate.
Holiday homes Sussex, Jersey, Berlin and Nice/

By the coast but in the middle of the country. Large house that requires no upkeep or cleaning and plenty of space. Peace and quiet with no neighbours but within a huge thriving community. Buses nearly and great shops but no noise. Great internet and sunshine but magic rain for the plants so no watering required for the huge grounds. Very cheap and affordable to buy and then suddenly worth a load of money so good investment. Plenty of land to build houses for the children too 😂 princess Anne’s place ticks a lot of boxes - although I’d like a decent local pub that I can walk to and walk home easily that makes no noise

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 18/08/2021 16:35

In a spacious, brownstone apartment in the West Village, Manhattan.

Xeak · 18/08/2021 16:40

Any chance the posters wanting rural highland/Scotland have a small house in Japan. It's my dream and I'd be willing to swap! Grin

I love this
Kenneldogsrock · 18/08/2021 16:46

Madeira or Jersey. I love them both so much it’s hard to decide!

penguinwithasuitcase · 18/08/2021 16:48

Suggest 'money no object AND someone else is dealing with bureaucracy / taxes'

I live in one of those 'dream destinations' people are often saying they'd love to move to –and the reality of paperwork life here is very different to what it feels like on holiday!

Phyllis321 · 18/08/2021 16:48

The loveliest bit of Cambridge.
Holiday home on a remote coastal spot.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 18/08/2021 16:51

British Columbia. Or maybe colorado.

LoveFall · 18/08/2021 16:53

Santa Barbara, because it's just the right size and in a beautiful setting.

cariadlet · 18/08/2021 16:58

Costa Rica

Caribbean coast near beach and rainforest. DP has been spending a lot of time on CR estate agent websites since he was furloughed in the first lockdown.

We'd love to live somewhere green, peaceful and laid back.

Antsinyourpanta · 18/08/2021 17:02

One of my favourite holidays was just outside Newquay in Cornwall about 20 min walk from the beach. It felt so relaxed and almost like I'd stepped back in time possibly because there was no wifi or phone signal but having always lived in towns or suburbia I dont think I'm organised enough for country/beach life where you cant walk to a corner shop at least!!Blush
I think a town by the sea would be better for me but havent decided which one!

starfishmummy · 18/08/2021 17:07

Seaside cottage

NotWanting · 18/08/2021 17:09

I love where I live (London) but would live a holiday home on the West Coast of Scotland - somewhere between Glencoe and Ullapool.

loobylou10 · 18/08/2021 17:10

Ambridge 😀

Mintjulia · 18/08/2021 17:13

In the U.K., Deeside. Anywhere in the world, probably Copenhagen

DrunkenKoala · 18/08/2021 17:17

Loved Byron Bay in Australia (although it’s been 20yrs since I was there so may well be very different now).

HiGunny · 18/08/2021 17:20

Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It's such a beautiful country with a laid back lifestyle. DH might not agree to it though as his pale skin doesn't cope well with tropical sun. The back up might have to be the west coast of France.

campion · 18/08/2021 17:20

@loobylou10

Ambridge 😀
But your life would be broadcast every night!Grin

Harrogate, in a lovely Yorkshire stone house near the centre (£££££s!). Walking distance to Bettys and Valley Gardens.
DH always complains it's 'bleak' there to wind me up so I may have to leave him behind.

AnaViaSalamanca · 18/08/2021 17:23

Geneva. Close to the mountains, lake and french language.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/08/2021 17:31

Portugal. Beautiful weather all year round, lovely friendly people. I'd have a villa with my own pool and family and friends to visit every year. Second choice would be Toronto, it's my favourite city in the world but not sure I could cope with the winters.

Hen2018 · 18/08/2021 17:36

I’d go somewhere new every year.

Amsterdam
Berlin
Somewhere in Switzerland
Reykjavik
Shetland

Then settle down in a cottage on the Welsh coast. Probably Pembrokeshire.

16purplecolour16 · 18/08/2021 17:42

Love that so many posters identifying somewhere in the UK, prompted me to think, if I had to move out of Europe, my comfort spot, it would be China. Learn the language, totally different culture, total culture shock. That would jolt my 60 year old arse into gear.

RickOShay · 18/08/2021 17:42

Rio de Janerio
It’s the one that got away for me.
