Children and passport expiry date

Need advice and can't get through to any official bodies

My Ds10 passport expires in Sept 2021 and we are due to fly out to an EU country next week are return 1 week later. The government website states that you need 6 months left on your passport fo travel, but does that really apply to children as well (especially since kids passports are only valid for 5 years anyway)

If we all rock up at the airport next week will he be allowed on the plane?

It applies to anyone with a passport. Check the country your going to policies. But most countries advised 6 months must be left on a passport.

If the policy is in place for whichever country you're going to then it will apply to all passports, adult or child. I would be doing everything I could to do an expedited renewal today although I think that can take up to 7 days for a child passport. You may need to cancel. This seems to be catching a lot of people out.

Yes I can't get a fast track appointment until Monday - and we are due to fly Friday. The fast track passports can take 7 days to arrive so looks like we will have to cancel. Gutted

Applies to All passports unless an EU passport.
Some countries want 3 not 6 months validity left, it varies. Less than a month is unlikely though.

Did the renewal online which was super quick. Or you can do a fast track one but you have to go to a passport office for that

I would think not. My ss was meant to fly on holiday with his dad but his dad hasn’t checked the expiry properly so didn’t have 6 months on it.

So dc couldn’t fly! Cue mh DH rushing to the airport to pick him up and Ex and his gf / her kids were still going to go (not that I thing Ex Gf and her kids should have missed out but Ex should have at least got him home)

Sadly you won’t be able to go. This has happened to three of my friends in the past month. Extremely frustrating!
