Replacing cobble locked drive with tarmac?

Has anyone done this?
What do you think?
I ve a large cobble lock drive and back patio. The weeds are relentless and it feels like I m spraying pulling power washing all summer.
I ve looked at replacing with bigger slabs, impressed concrete and dh suggested tarmac....

Do you brush sand back in between the blocks after power washing? I thought that was supposed to suppress weeds.

You might need planning permission for tarmac - it doesnt let the rain through so is not very ‘green’

Hi there.
Thanks for replies.
Yes I brush sand after power washing but it really doesn't stop the weeds.
I suppose its 20 years old and I m also sick of looking at it.
I ll look into planning but the road has lots of different type houses and some have tarmac so prob not be an issue.
It was more the look.
I get the green element for sure and that a bother for me

You can buy weed inhibiting sand it's got a naturally high PH so stuff doesn't grow I think it's called Dansand
