Hi Ladies! Was wondering if anyone is dealing with anything similar..my son is 33 months old he will be 3 in November,he has always been a thin child ..he now weights near 12.700 kg which is below the average and for height he is on the 70 percentile. He is happy and energetic,eats very good!! Rarely sick. Every time i mention the weight issue to his doctor he says he is fine so i forget about it for a while ,but i do worry from time to time cause for the amount of food he eats his weight is not equal and when i compare him with other children the difference is obvious, And keep thinking maybe i should get more into it? Maybe im i missing something? Im quite petite 1.55 cm height and weight 55kg and his dad is thin 70 kg and 1.84 cm height. Should i be worried? Or rest assure that he is happy and looking healthy? TIA

What centile was he born on and what centile is he on now?

Immaculatemisconception · 17/08/2021 14:14

My son was always a tall underweight child. When he used to swim, he looked so thin and someone once asked me if he ate much he ate tons.

He's now a tall underweight adult, who runs marathons and loves his food. I really wouldn't worry @mommycarol, especially as the doctor isn't concerned.

@Pissinthepottyplease he was born 3kg i think thats in the 15 percentile? Not sure..he still follows that percentile.

@Immaculatemisconception was your son a good eater? My son is a great eater,thats why i worry..could it just be genes??

If he's following his centile then he's fine. Someone has to be "below average" because that's how averages work!

Plot it in his red book. As long as he is following his centile then it’s fine.

DH was thin as a child, as was I. All four DC are stick thin. Just genetically predisposed to be thin. Nothing we can do but make sure they eat every day.

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 14:43

@CiaoForNiao Thank you! Thats reassuring :) also i read something about height has to pe proportional with weight..and thats how you calculate BMI..well his height is way more that his weight,70 percentile..i did calculate his bmi it was very very low..like 1% which indicates under weighted..that got me stressed.

Btw, I am not stick thin now, neither is DH. It does sometimes catch up with you later on in life😂

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 14:45

@HarrisMcCoo thank you :)

I was tall and thin as a child and classed by bmi as underweight or just in the normal range until I was about 30 odd. Definitely not true now! Still tall of course, but overweight now. As long as he is healthy it really doesn't matter.

I think his weight sounds fine? My DS is 3.4 and weighs 2 stone 6/15kgs. I'm not sure what centile he is on for height but he is definitely tall and taller than other children the same age at nursery. He's probably just very active.
You're supposed to be able to see young children's ribs.

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 14:46

@Pissinthepottyplease He does follow the curve.

Some children are just very slightly built. I wouldn't worry too much as long as he eats well and is healthy.

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 14:48

@Immaculatemisconception ok,thats reassuring :)

My DS is 2 and very petite. He has a very small build and weighs less than the 'average toddler' going by their charts.

He's a good eater and constantly running about. I think he may just be small.

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 14:49

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut hi :) yes,he eats great!! And looks healthy.

I was always small and I ate like a horse. My DS ate very well and before he walked he was really quite fat. As long as your child is eating well there is nothing wrong.

mommycarol · 17/08/2021 16:52

Thank you ladies! I think i need to chill :) worrying never ends does it? 😅 Xx
