Getting sunblock stains out of white blouse?

Disneycharacter · 17/08/2021 11:45

So I washed it as normal with whites only (it's an expensive 'eco' blouse and really nice, but it has this yellowish tinge around the neck and arms where I applied sunscreen.

How do I remove this? I dried in the sun on the line and did a quick spray with vanish.

Place marking as I have the same problem!

elaeocarpus · 17/08/2021 11:58

Whatever you do, don't try and bleach it ( bitter experience)

coldseacoldears · 17/08/2021 12:13

I don't know for sure but isn't lemon juice supposed to help?

Disneycharacter · 17/08/2021 20:20

Definitely not using bleach. I have learned that lesson the hard way!

Soak it in napisan over night, spray it with vanish and cool wash
Or dampen it , pour over salt and dab with a cold wet flannel

CaledonianSleeper · 17/08/2021 20:29

Someone on another thread on here said that eucalyptus oil removes the yellow stains. I haven’t tried it but I’d love to know if it works - and how to use it, do you rub the oil into the stain neat and then wash..? So this is a long placemark really!!

AllWashedOut · 17/08/2021 20:35

Placemarking too as I have linen for a holiday let and the bloody yellow stains...

Disrespected · 17/08/2021 20:38

I heard napisan. All dds sunsuits are like this. May try it.

CaledonianSleeper · 17/08/2021 20:40

I’m not sure what napisan is, but it sounds bleachy..? Would it be ok on patterned fabric?

bookh · 17/08/2021 20:45

After ruining half of my kids clothes and mine, and posting here at the time. It would seem nothing. Changing sun cream, the calypso one doesn't do it.

I even emailed child's farm in desperation and they replied....nothing!

Malin52 · 17/08/2021 20:57

I'm in sun protection most of the year and I'm afraid to say nothing shifts those yellow stains. So many white clothing items ruined not to mention sheets and towels.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/08/2021 21:02

I have tried everything and nothing gets rid of those stains. Absolutely nothing.

Lineeyesoverhere · 17/08/2021 21:09

@bookh- Child’s Farm is particularly horrific at staining. So many beautiful clothes are now trashed!

irresistibleoverwhelm · 17/08/2021 21:19

Yeah sadly I’ve never found that anything shifts sunscreen stains. Occasionally leaving the clothes out in the direct sun to dry helps a bit.

bookh · 17/08/2021 21:43

@Lineeyesoverhere yup! And clearly sun protection is more important. But how they get away with marketing it is beyond me. Should come with a warning. Other brands are available and as effective which won't cost you entire outfits

Disneycharacter · 17/08/2021 21:46

I'll look into napisan and try it out with a less expensive item, but sad my white top is probably ruined. First time out wearing it ☹️

Head and shoulders, rub it into the stains before washing. Works every time for me, in fact I just did it yesterday!

FlatteredFool · 17/08/2021 21:48

Fairy washing up liquid and an old toothbrush. Wet the fabric and gentle rub in the fairy liquid. Wash on a normal wash for the item. I've had to do it a few times but it's gradually faded. Mine is sweat and sun cream which is a delightful combination BlushI love white tops in summer but they are most impractical. Good luck!

HPLikecraft · 17/08/2021 21:58

I managed to fix mine by washing hot, about 70 degrees.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 17/08/2021 22:01

I soaked over night in napisan then left on a window sill in the sun for about a week. I dulled it but I could still see it.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 17/08/2021 22:01

Meant to say boots is terrible for staining we use ultra sun.

GuckGuckDoose · 17/08/2021 22:04

Yes Boots Soltan is the devil for this!! Never have any issue with Garnier.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 17/08/2021 22:04

Nothing gets rid of those stains. I have also noticed that the more expensive the suncream, the worse the stains! I find Boots Soltan doesn't really stain?

Disneycharacter · 18/08/2021 08:32

This is garner ombré solaire factor 50/waterproof so it's full on.

I have a white linen top which is ruined round the neckline with sun cream.
I'm considering dying it, but I don't know if the dye will work over the sun cream patches.
Has anyone else tried this and did it work?
