Right, can't do Rome, Cannes, Seville this year. Where in England is the same?

And I'm only half (maybe a quarter....) kidding. Me and my best mate Naughty Nikky normally go away for at least one, usually 2 weekends a year in Barcelona/Lisbon/somewhere else lovely where we can sit outside pavement cafes and criticise everyone's outfits whilst drinking Aperol and flirting with tight-trousered waiters called Jose.
Last year that was off; cancelled Rome and Athens.
This year we've been trying but failing to get anything organised as we only go for a max of 3 nights and the hassle of PCR tests, poss of quarantine and all that bolleaux is just putting us off, and even if we could do it, the prices are astronomical.
Soooo, I've suggested to said NN that we go somewhere in the UK. She looked at me oddly and has challenged me to find something.

Thing is she's a fussy arse and won't do Brighton (I think it would be fab), we know London inside out. Maybe Bristol......???
Any ideas?

Portmerion might suit?

Cherryana · 16/08/2021 19:30

Sandbanks
Guernsey
Liverpool

Cherryana · 16/08/2021 19:31

Cardiff

Mumblechum0 · 16/08/2021 19:32

Ah Guernsey might be a goer. Her mum lives in Sandbanks so she probs won't do that.
I do love Liverpool...
Also going to work out where Portmeiron is

Portmeirion is wonderful but not what you are looking for. Guernsey likewise. I'd agree with Sandbanks, or Exmouth.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/08/2021 19:33

Cardiff- lots of bars with outside seating.
Bath?

BakeOffRewatch · 16/08/2021 19:34

Fowey

Laquila · 16/08/2021 19:36

Bristol was the city that came to mind before I even got to the end of your post! Or maybe Edinburgh? Realistically I think you need a student population 😁

marmaladehound · 16/08/2021 19:38

Bath, Liverpool, Edinburgh?

LyndaMcLynda · 16/08/2021 19:38

Bristol - Park Street, Clifton and the Harbourside would be perfect for what you want.

PermanentTemporary · 16/08/2021 19:38

Bath

Or the flesh pots of Yorkshire:
Leeds
Ilkley
York
Harrogate

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2021 19:39

Jersey? Should be better weather than the mainland so good for outside drinking.

Or Malta might be an option? Valetta is good for city type stuff and it's warm and sunny.

AnyFucker · 16/08/2021 19:40

Manchester, Northern Quarter

Palavah · 16/08/2021 19:41

Poole, Bath, Bristol, Edinburgh, Largs,

Mumblechum0 · 16/08/2021 19:42

Thanks all, I’m going to look into all of these, ideally somewhere which will be warmish so need to go soon…

Zhampagne · 16/08/2021 20:17

Bath
Cambridge
Edinburgh (but not warm!)
Ludlow

Mumblechum0 · 19/08/2021 14:52

Followed the advice of many of you; a night in Bristol then one (could only get one) at the Gainsborough Spa in Bath.

So difficult to get anything at the moment, and the prices are eyewatering but as long as it doesn't rain the whole time I'm sure it'll be reet.

Many thanks to you all

Newcastle

Standrewsschool · 19/08/2021 21:06

Bath was my first thought.

AnnaMagnani · 19/08/2021 21:19

Totally not Cambridge. There is no outfit touting going on there. Although TBH my memories of Rome are lots of tourists wearing sensible shoes.

Maybe York or Liverpool.

tiredanddangerous · 19/08/2021 21:29

Another vote for Cardiff here. I love the Cardiff Bay Area.

Peakypolly · 19/08/2021 21:34

So not just England? I would think Edinburgh is closest in terms of culture and fashionistas.
I'm from Bath and it is more difficult to get the 'bracing' energy in the city basin that you can get from the places you mention.

DerAlteMann · 19/08/2021 22:10

London. Where else compares?
