Bought them yesterday, unopened with a use by date of today. I want to eat them tomorrow in a stir fry.....Would you?

They didn't grow with a use by date.

If they're not brown or slimy, they'll be fine. Just wash them and cook them well.

Of course! I would eat meat one day over and veg several days over i it looks and smells fine. Trust your own senses!

Why would you not?

Vegetables don't know that they've been given use by dates!

I would eat them today but not tomorrow but I’m very serious about use by dates. best before dates are different, I’m more relaxed about them.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 16/08/2021 17:36

As far as I’m concerned, the use by dates on fruit and veg just tell me how long they are likely to last — if they look OK I’ll eat them. To be honest, if most of them look OK I’ll pick out the dodgy ones and use the rest.

I don’t know what people think will happen if they use perfectly good veg beyond some arbitrary date on the pack. What do you do about loose veg that isn’t dated at all?

hardyloveit · 16/08/2021 17:50

I always take all the veg out of its packaging and go by smell and the look

Thanks all, I had really bad food poisoning from eating (unopened) pre packed salad once so I was just wondering if bean sprouts were especially known for causing issues.
