I have been looking online for a backpack that is comfortable, waterproof, have a few different compartments and 2 pockets on sides for water bottle and umbrella and preferably not black or navy.I would like a decent quality one but not too expensive.
does anyone know a bag like that please?it`s for a 12 year old.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a great school bag for your DC, we’ve recently updated our best school bags page with lots of options, as bought, tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

Is this what you want for your child, or what they want? If the former, stop!

Agreed.

Did your child specify waterproof and pocket for an umbrella? Honesty let you child pick what they want as long as it meets uniform rules and within budget.

First, check school rules about bags.
Secondly, check locally what brands and colours are used by children attending the school and year group
Thirdly, then show your child the results and negotiate a decent budget for the bag and let your child choose.

DD only wears laptop bags, she has to walk 30 minutes and has to carry all her own books and notebooks, lockers are currently out of use.

Mine chose rucksacks from the Trespass sale.

The best backpack we ever bought was a Superdry one. It lasted Dd from Year 9 to Year 13 and she’s still using it now at Uni. It was pricey but is waterproof, comfy to wear and still looks good.

Thanks.I will have a look at laptop bags too. My DD also has a long walk to school and carries all of her her stuff every day. I had to pick her up from school at the end of last year and carried her bag for her as she wasn`t feeling well and it made me realise how uncomfortable it was.
now I would like to find something better for her back.
I will have a look at your recommendations, thank you
