Should I avoid wearing deodorant to this appointment

I have a breast clinic appointment tomorrow to get a lump checked.

Nothing in the letter at all about preparation etc.

I've read online that you shouldn't wear deodorant if having a mammogram because the aluminium gets picked up on the xray.

However... I don't think I'll be having a mammogram because:
-I am under 35years old (I am 31)
-I am pregnant (I realise that doesn't mean a mammogram is impossible, just avoided if possible)

Surely it will be an ultrasound? In which case deodorant is fine?

You can get aluminium free deodorant. Bionsen - I use it. Or just make sure you're freshly washed, then wash again in the afternoon? Maybe take a bodyspray if you're really paranoid, & put it on afterwards.

I'm a similar age to you and it was an ultrasound. GP said it would be ultrasound because of my age.

It was an ultrasound for me at your age xx

No time to get deodorant but appreciate suggestion

Glad to hear it will probably be US. My mum had an awful experience with a mammogram the bruising was so bad, her while chest was black and the bruising was there for months. Really don't want that level of pain when pregnant and can't even take any proper pain relief.

It was a mammogram for me, a few years younger than you, then ultrasound to confirm.
Talc is a bigger issue, but mostly not used by young people. Deo in the pits probably ok as your armpit doesn't really end up in the mammogram plates.
Good luck; hope all goes well x

I think they told me it was OK to wear a deodorant but I decided against - didn't want any, oh you misunderstood palaver - and took a deodorant with me...to everyone's relief!

I had a lump examined at 36 and had mammogram and ultrasound. I wasn't pregnant though and 35 could well be some sort of age cut-off point so might not be relevant.
Nothing in the appointment paperwork etc said anything about deodorant so I would have worn it.

It's just one day.

Wash before going, add a spot of deodorant (not antiperspirant) and go back to normal the following day.

ChikiTIKI · 17/08/2021 18:17

Turned out to be an ultrasound. I still haven't put deodorant on... Don't worry I am going for a bath soon!

Turns out it's some sort of cyst/infection just under the skin. They tried to drain it with a syringe but nothing came out. I'm on a course of antibiotics now, going back in a few days to see if it's improved. I will wear deodorant for that appointment!

Thanks for your replies everyone. I appreciate you all.

If in doubt just take stuff to wash with to the appointment (a flannel & soap in a tub) . I've done that before. Excusable if they don't give specific instructions in the letter. Most rooms have sinks in, if not you just have to nip to the loo.

ChikiTIKI · 17/08/2021 19:39

I already had the appointment thanks though @grasstreeleaf

What a relief for you, what a horrible time to be faced with a scare like that.

Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly

ChikiTIKI · 18/08/2021 08:35

Thanks @duey xx
