Your summer holiday low (lighthearted)

When I was planning fun days out and long hot days playing in the garden at the end of June I didn't expect I'd end up here...

Hiding in my spare room eating a stashed smarties Easter egg 🤦🏽‍♀️

Just done the weekly shop, it was hell. I am counting down the last two remaining days until school returns on Wednesday 🎉

Tell me your summer holiday low...or is it just me 😂

Like you, I had lots of plans for fun days out and quality time with my teenage DD, then just at the end of the first week of the holidays we both got covid. Both horrendously ill, all plans cancelled, stuck in isolation. We’re over the worst of it now but still not 100% and I feel guilty that poor DD hasn’t had any fun!

Oh wow that's horrible I'm so sorry you guys went through that! The summer holidays have a way of doing the complete opposite to what we want! I got a few days out here and there and a small staycation but I'm drained and ready for the schools back!!Grin

I think the worst bits were when the kids were younger but had started school (we both work FT) and the holidays were this patchwork of care from parents, summer camps, days with a babysitter etc and I had to remember it all because DH's awareness of the holidays amounted asking some time in July 'Oh, is it summer holidays soon?' My head would be spinning after a couple of weeks!

My 12 year old son with autism had a mega meltdown the first Monday of the holiday and when i tried to remove him from the situation attacked me physically and tried to strangle me.

That was pretty shit.

On the upside though, it triggered me to access a different sort of support for him and that is working well, so silver linings. :)

On the other upside, we have had some lovely days out including bowling which were pretty awesome.

Had 4 days in Wales and a weekend in London, rained solidly on both!
Hard work trying to entertain 2 teenage boys......feel like I always spend a fortune every August, can't wait for September to come.....

Today:
Went to a council run play session - the bouncy castle started to deflate on top of our toddlers as we scrambled to get them out.

Then they made slime and playdough and I ended up covered in it.

Then went to a playground in the cold where all the equipment seemed to be off limits - broken maybe.

Went to another playground when it started to rain and my toddler sat in a puddle.

Came home, cooked a pizza, it stuck to the back of the oven somehow and the kitchen filled with smoke. Got it out and promptly dropped it on the kitchen floor, topping side down.

Good start to the week!
