If so when/why? I have, once when I panicked a bit after being mugged but luckily haven’t had to any other time

@fhammock

Twice.

First time I could hear neighbours having an violent argument.

Second time at work (in a nursery) for a baby who had a seizure and stopped breathing. Most terrifying thing I've ever experienced.

I have just literally dialled 999 for the second time in my (nearly 50 year life) 30 mins ago because I could hear neighbours sceaming outside and it sounded violent. By the time the police arrived it has all calmed down and I know feel like I've wasted their time Sad
FatAnkles · 15/08/2021 23:34

A few times, for work. Fire alarms going off and antisocial behaviour, mostly. A fight once.

CoasterCoaster · 15/08/2021 23:34

Today actually, horrible row at neighbours over the road which turned violent, police have been and taken the husband and I'm pretty sure we weren't the only ones who called from the way everyone rallied round the woman and her kids. All quiet now anyway, was quite proud of my neighbourhood today tbh, police were quick too.

roastednut · 15/08/2021 23:36

I meant now not know (I'm tired).

tedsletterofthelaw · 15/08/2021 23:38

Yes.

When I heard a loud thud from my (usually silent) elderly neighbour's house.

Sadly he's fallen down the stairs and died. He had no family and had to have a police post out on social media searching for his next of kin after he passed. I dread to think how long he'd have been there before he was found if I hadn't heard the fall Sad

MuckyPlucky · 15/08/2021 23:39

3 months ago when I saw someone about to commit suicide. Sadly I didn’t get to them in time and by the time the ambulance/police arrived it was too late

Whattheschitt · 15/08/2021 23:40

A couple of times, the job i work in means i speak to very vulnerable people and a couple of times I've had to call an ambulance for someone feeling suicidal.

Fiercestcalm · 15/08/2021 23:43

Yes as a teen and found a man in the street mid afternoon slurring and rolling in the gutter. I was too afraid to approach as it was an empty suburban street. They attended and he was in a diabetic coma

At uni walking home, strong smell of gas called fire brigade

Heartofglass12345 · 15/08/2021 23:45

A couple of times because of DV in my house when I was a teenager. Another time when a family member stabbed her partner and I was in the house.
Another time when my son stopped breathing and I had to revive him.
A couple of times in my job when I worked as a nurse in a nursing home.
The one where my son wasn't breathing was the worst by far, luckily he was ok!

Bakewellisntjustacake · 15/08/2021 23:48

Once When my neighbour passed away aged 40 and then when her husband lost it with their 2 year old 4 months later.

He was screaming with such ferocity and yanking the kid around by the arm. The child went to live with family for a few months while he sobered up and he got a lot of help. I think they see each other a lot in the week but they don't live together now.

Amiable · 15/08/2021 23:48

A few times - first time was when I saw someone breaking into a house near our flat, police were there within a few minutes - turned out the guy had locked himself out of his own flat, but police assured me I did the right thing!

Unfortunately 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Addison's disease, and have had to call an ambulance 6 time since then. I always feel guilty, even though I know I have to call them - last time was just a couple of weeks ago and they kept me in for 3 days until I stabilised, but I still felt bad!

Blamelesscars · 15/08/2021 23:49

Yes a few times

1st time I was 16 weeks pregnant walking home and suddenly I started having a miscarriage. It was late and I was alone I was in so much pain and there was so much blood everywhere … a very nice taxi driver stopped and waited with me while the ambulance came. I never thanked him properly

2nd time was when a drunk driver smashed into the front of yeh house opposite mine. Luckily no one in the house was seriously hurt

3rd when my DS2 stopped breathing at 3 days old. Never been so scared in my life

OoglyMoogly · 15/08/2021 23:52

When my DD fell against a garden wall while walking home from the shops and gallons of blood appeared.

When DH had an “event” resulting in an MRI

Nonbio46 · 15/08/2021 23:52

A few times. When I was 17 and found my mum had collapsed with a brain haemorrhage ( she didn’t recover), a couple of years ago when my friend was having a rare type of migraine and was literally rolling around screaming in pain ( she had a few days in hospital to get the pain under control) and once a young lad was completely intoxicated leaning on our garage door with blood pouring out the bak of his head ( he was taken to a and e to recover).

SuperCaliFragalistic · 16/08/2021 00:08

I've just remembered 2 others. I called the police once when some people broke into my house while I was sat watching telly and also when a woman was trying to escape from a violent partner and he had her trapped in my front garden.

noblegreenk · 16/08/2021 00:38

I did once. When I lived with my parents we had burglars break into the house whilst we we're watching TV one evening. My dad wasn't home, it was just mum and me. We locked ourselves in the garage via the internal door and I rang the police whilst they were ransacking the house. Police arrived within 10min but the burglars had gone. It was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. I couldn't believe how brazen they were! They knew we were home, they could see us through the window, and they just didn't care.

WaterIsBest · 16/08/2021 00:41

Plenty of times

Mostly medical emergencies, so 999 Ambulance

Afew Fire calls and afew police calls,
The most ‘interesting’ one being when i was shot at, which required Armed police

spiderlight · 16/08/2021 00:43

Three times - the first time when my then-boyfriend had viral meningitis and the second when a friend's wife rang me and calmly informed me that she'd left her baby in her GP's waiting room and was on her way home to kill herself. That was a complex situation and she had done no such thing, but I was hundreds of miles away and had no idea what else to do. The third time was to get the police to break into my dad's house because I couldn't get hold of him - he'd collapsed with meningococcal meningitis and was very lucky to survive.

TrashPanda · 16/08/2021 00:56

Twice.

First I was in my teens and called the fire brigade as our chimney was on fire. We were just about to leave the house to go to a New Years Eve party, I was standing by the woodburner doing my makeup in the mirror above it when I heard a really odd whooshing noise, like across between someone breathing in really fast and running water but incredibly loudly. They came very quickly and managed to put it out with very little damage.

Second was an argument/fight happening in the entrance to my block of flats. We live directly above so couldn't see anything, just heard shouting and the entrance doors banging. Happened fairly regularly so was just going to ring 101 and then I hear a really scary scream. Although I couldn't see and wasn't going down to check the scream was bad so called 999. Turned out a woman had been slashed with a broken bottle by a bloke who was friends with her ex.

TheBigFatMermaid · 16/08/2021 01:17

Yes, once when I was 20,on my way home from work, saw sparks coming out of a chimney of a house with a thatched roof. Called fire brigade after knocking their door and getting teens to leave the house. Also went and let the mum know, as they told me where she was. She called my a stupid bitch for calling the fire brigade and said they'd ruin her house.

Fire brigade again... fire alarm went off at work and it was protocol. A ring had been left on in a small kitchen and the heat build up triggered the alarm.

Then for a drug addict I found collapsed on the floor.

5 times I had to dial 999 for my neighbour I kept an eye on as she'd had strokes.

1 time when I left my grill on and it caught fire.

I think that's it.

TheBigFatMermaid · 16/08/2021 01:19

Oh no. I forgot the time my psycho neighbour was threatening to "throw a brick through you fucking window and make sure it hits your fucking kids" as well as actually throwing stuff at the window...back of a wardrobe, small bbq, drawers....

HerRoyalNotness · 16/08/2021 01:22

My SSis called the police on a family member who was threatening to vandalise property if they didn’t get their way. They seemed to ignore the person was drunk driving (small town). That was interesting.

I’ve had to call for one of my D.C. having a seizure. Different from the normal ones so we went in to be sure. Someone on the next door app asked why an ambulance was arriving in the neighbourhood. Errrr because someone needs one Pamela (her name actually was Pamela)

XenoBitch · 16/08/2021 01:26

A few times. Mostly for finding drunk people in the street. And once I called it on myself as I was about to end my life.

changedaugust2021 · 16/08/2021 01:44

Dozens and dozens of times . My mum has severe mental illness . Eventually the call handlers recognised me to the extent one asked me how uni was going ... similar to NHS24 sadly where several of the staff recognise me !

pollylocketpickedapocket · 16/08/2021 02:02

@AnyFucker

Yes, I was driving over Death Valley (a notorious section of the M60) and saw a young man walking along the carriageway
I’ve never heard of that, where exactly on the m60?
