If so when/why? I have, once when I panicked a bit after being mugged but luckily haven’t had to any other time

OP posts:

Police once for an obviously drunk driver in front of us who had just narrowly missed a group of pedestrians.

Ambulance once for DH when some liquid from the microwave exploded in his face and eyes.

@helly29

A couple of months ago we had to ring the fire brigade to get our three year old free after she got her fingers stuck in the hinge side of a door.

Felt ridiculous but had no other way to get her out and didn't know if she'd seriously damaged her hand. They came really quickly and were great

Forgot about this one - one of mine decided to try and climb a stair gate and got his chubby leg wedged 🙄 fire brigade had to bend the bars out!
DiabeticFirstBaby · 15/08/2021 21:21

Only once, phoned the police as a confused patient had absconded from the hospital and was trying to get on a bus in pjs. Had already nearly been run over. Hospital security wouldn't do anything as she had left the grounds so myself and another lady physically stopped her from getting on the bus and I called the police as she was a danger to herself.

MuchTooTired · 15/08/2021 21:21

Only twice for me. First was a massive brawl at closing time, second was when I thought my Dad was having a heart attack.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 15/08/2021 21:21

Regularly (not daily but more than once a week). I work in mental health, particularly dealing with people in crisis. Lots of police welfare checks and the occasional ambulance required.

I reported some very erratic (albeit incredibly slow) driving the other day. Either someone heavily intoxicated or having a medical episode. Didn't in a million years think they'd be able to do anything (rural county, very stretched police force) but my conscience wouldn't allow me to ignore it. They used my commentry to guide a patrol to the area and he slipped in front of me and pulled the car over. Was very impressed by their response tbh.

PeaAndHamSoupFromAChicken · 15/08/2021 21:21

Twice.

Once when we saw our neighbour attack his wife outside their house. He was using their children's bikes and outdoor toys to hit her and it was horrific. We never heard anything more about it though and they moved shortly afterwards.

Then the second time was when a neighbour had an accident in the street and hit his head. I didn't realise quite how much blood could come from a head wound until then. Thankfully the ambulance wanted to take him to check him out as they found out he'd cracked a rib. He recovered well thankfully.

H8H8H8 · 15/08/2021 21:21

Several times.

For police (car broken down in lane 3 of motorway, driver inexplicably stood next to vehicle. How it didn’t end in tragedy I have absolutely no idea).

Ambulances many times as I used to be a first aider at work (retail store with large footfall). Had falls down escalators, slip and falls (once resulting in broken hip), epileptic fits, trans ischemic attacks, all sorts.

Mrsmchammer · 15/08/2021 21:22

Sadly an awful lot. There was a point where we used be assaulted at work on a very regular basis.

Junipersky · 15/08/2021 21:22

Twice. Once for an ambulance when my baby stopped breathing in my arms, and once for the police when my severely disabled adult son went missing from his Adult Care Home (he is supposed to be one-to-one as has the mind of a baby and no speech/ danger awareness).

ShowOfHands · 15/08/2021 21:22

Once for dh when he had an accident. Once when I found a chap overdosing on the street. A few times while in a car, most recently when on the motorway and a surf board slid off somebody's roof and landed on the middle of lane 2 of the M4 (I was the passenger).

katienana · 15/08/2021 21:22

Saw a car on fire on the hard shoulder of the A1. Also saw kids throwing stuff from a bridge onto the road.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 15/08/2021 21:22

Several times
Fights, someone clearly drunk getting behind the wheel of his car, a friend having a huge seizure and a few weeks ago a domestic abuse incident happening outside my window

wendywoopywoo222 · 15/08/2021 21:22

Once at work when some dodgy guys came in and tried to exhort money in a menacing manner. One of the fellas hit the disconnect button but they called back and I managed to tell them why I had called before he pulled the wires out the wall. They legged it's when they heard the sirens.

Again when I was dog walking and witnessed a man stabbing out tyres in the car park, I called from behind a big tree but got enough details to get him caught.

OneLitreOfWater · 15/08/2021 21:22

3 times. Twice for ds2 as a toddler, once for his first ever asthma attack and once for a fit. The other time for my mum when she was having a stroke.

AnyFucker · 15/08/2021 21:24

Yes, I was driving over Death Valley (a notorious section of the M60) and saw a young man walking along the carriageway

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 15/08/2021 21:24

A couple of times

Once as a teenager I witnessed a woman being forced into a car - police tracked them down from the reg. She was drunk and they were taking her home, she just didnt want to go. They came to the house as the operator reported I was very distressed. I think I was 14 at the time.

Last summer, dh was driving on the parkway and a man appeared in the middle of the road, several cars swerved round him, there was a lot of breaking, I was one of many calls for that instance, never heard what happened.

Incywinceyspider · 15/08/2021 21:24

3 times. First time was when I came across a man lying in the street. Turns out he was just very drunk.
Second time was at work when a customer threatened to take their own life.
Third time was when my DS tipped boiling tea all over himself. Probably an overreaction on my part as his burns were very superficial, but he was only 14 months and I panicked!

AliasGrape · 15/08/2021 21:24

When my dad had a stroke when I was 15
When my mum was dying
When I found an elderly man collapsed in the middle of the road having come off his mobility scooter a.few months back, (hed fallen off the pavement on it). Luckily he wasn't too badly injured it turned out.

Gherkingreen · 15/08/2021 21:25

Only once on way home from work late at night, about 20 years ago when I was mid 20s. A car in the fast lane of the motorway clipped the central reservation (think driver was on her phone) and something large flew off the vehicle, which nearly hit my car.
I pulled over on the hard shoulder, called 999 then crossed the (very quiet) m-way to help the driver out of the car who was not injured but in shock.
I got her over to the safe side of the hard-shoulder barrier then moments after, her car was hit by a lorry - the lorry driver couldn't see her car as it's lights weren't on and the m-way didn't have lights.
Police and ambulance came, then police followed me home to make sure I got there safely. Still can't really believe it happened, and how lucky the driver was.

Stilldistraught · 15/08/2021 21:25

I rang 999 to report one of my dc for a crime knowing I would likely never see them again.
I was right...
Been 10 years now.
Sad

AllTheBs · 15/08/2021 21:26

Many times, for Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade. Mostly Ambulance.

MajesticWhine · 15/08/2021 21:27

A couple of times at work for welfare checks (mental health concerns).
Also I witnessed a car crash that was caused by dangerous driving. I asked for police and ambulance to attend - thought the police should attend as I was concerned the person who caused the accident was not going to give their details and a car was stranded in the road with the passengers too shaken to get out.
The call handler did not call police and told me it was fine to leaveConfused

GeekCardigan · 15/08/2021 21:28

I got to 50 without having to ring it. Have now done it 3 times, once when we witnessed an accident on the motorway and twice for burglaries in progress

Neolara · 15/08/2021 21:28

When I realised dc3 was arriving very quickly, 15 minutes after my waters burst and contractions started. The ambulance arrived 15 mins later, but 2 minutes after my DH had delivered our DD in the kitchen. The paramedic was very relieved DD had already arrived as he said he'd only delivered one baby before.

regthetabbycat · 15/08/2021 21:29

Twice.

Police when someone was stabbed outside my house and an ambulance when I was having a stroke.
