If so when/why? I have, once when I panicked a bit after being mugged but luckily haven’t had to any other time

Oh, I forgot that once they were called to rescue a 3 year old me from a burning house.

My father had passed out with the chip pan on (alcoholic) which turned into a fire.

He then left the house leaving me in bed upstairs, he didn't call the emergency services.

Luckily the neighbour saw flames and called 999 or I would have died in my bed. I still remember it and being carried out by a fireman.

My DM left him shortly afterwards.

Twice. Dsis aged 15 drunk and vomiting and DP diabetic collapsed in a hypo.

Have had multiple ambulances called for me. Mostly gallstones, doc said call every time because it presents as chest pain.

Luckily nobody like this but a person belonging to a family very well known to the police. Hence why the overkill on police cars and personnel as he is/was a dangerous person. Not sure if he is still in prison but haven't seen her for a long time so hoping she got away from him/them.

Yes. 6 weeks after a miscarriage I had a massive hemorrhage. I had just carried the shopping in and was chatting to my sister who was visiting from abroad. I suddenly felt warm down below and then there was a massive splash of red. I fainted and my sister called 999. The ambulance were there in 3 minutes! I was blue lighted to hospital and went straight to resus. I had sepsis and needed surgery and blood transfusions. It was terrifying, I didn’t even feel that bad in the morning. Just had a slight headache and felt a bit warm and clammy. The miscarriage hadn’t completed.

Chimney caught fire.
Pregnant teen collapsed on train station
Woman being forced into car by two men. Much like previous poster, I think it turned out she was drunk but very easily could have been not that.
Threatened to to break up man hitting woman in homebase car park late at night.
Dd aged 5 had torticullis in middle of the night. Had never heard of it, she was screaming in agony and couldnt be touched or moved. It was very scary.

Once. My elderly neighbour fell and had broken her hip. She lay on the ground for 3 hours before the ambulance arrived

garlictwist · 17/08/2021 06:06

Yes when I saw a motorcycle accident when driving and also when the neighbours fence set on fire.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 17/08/2021 06:21

Every time DP has a seizure lasting longer than 2 minutes. The last time was 2019.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 17/08/2021 06:47

First time was when my son got his leg trapped in a bench and I had to call the fire brigade to dismantle the bench 🙄

Second was when we were involved in a hit and run and the other car just drove off.

Jericha · 17/08/2021 08:57

Quite a few times.

Kids throwing large rocks onto the motorway from the bridge over it

Guy had been hit by a car and was in the road, turned out both his kneecaps had been broken

Middle of the night, motorcyclist had come off his bike and his bike was on top of him

Elderly guy had clipped his push bike on the curb and ended up concussed and vomiting in someone's hedge

Elderly couples car broken down in rush hour on the "smart" motorway just after the filter lane of traffic joined and that lane was still live and fast moving, they looked justifiably petrified. Pleased to say operator said lots of people were calling in and they were on it

Previous neighbour for domestic abuse. She left him before we moved away

pointythings · 17/08/2021 09:01

Yes, several times.

  • After witnessing a car accident where the car rolled
  • When DD1 was suicidal
  • When a neighbour across the road was standing in his doorway naked in December and appearing extremely confused
  • When my late husband threatened to kill me

Had useful and appropriate response every time, police/ambulance arrived in 3 out of 4 cases. With the incident with my husband, police were there in less than 4 minutes.

Adarajames · 17/08/2021 12:34

Too many times to count. I seem to always be the one that notices / first on scene / the only one taking action whilst everyone else films whatever is happening on their mobiles. Hmm Confused

Called all services except coastguard so far!

Adarajames · 17/08/2021 12:40

The most dramatic, as it were, was whilst also performing CPR; mostly I’ve not had to give quite such intense first aid whilst dialling, but have immobilised suspected serious damage to backs / necks / hips, dealt with head injuries, fought off the drunken gf of the man I was trying to help, crowd controlling and stopping all traffic on a main route, all whilst calling 999.
The most in a short space of time was I think 6 or 7 in one week, but that was at Crisis at Christmas and following policy, if I’d’ve had to triage and decide, I wouldn’t have called the majority of them!

TravellingSpoon · 17/08/2021 12:52

Several times, the last was when I saw a man standing on the central reservation of the A1.

Yes for DD, she had bad croup and was struggling to breathe. The paramedics were amazing and stayed with me in A and E until DD was seen as DP wasn't allowed with me.

@ThorIsAGod

Quite a few times as I always seem to come across things on the road! I've had to phone about cows, a sofa, a piece of car, a whole tyre and I think there was another thing too.

People often don't think it's a 999 but it is as it could cause a pile up

I called 101 recently as there was a ladder in the middle of the carriageway on the motorway. The call operator was lovely and I said I wasn't sure if 101 or 999 was best and she said the same thing - anything that's likely to cause an accident is a 999 call.

In our area, at least, calls to 101 go through to the same call handlers as 999 - it's just a case of prioritisation.
