If so when/why? I have, once when I panicked a bit after being mugged but luckily haven’t had to any other time

I did when I saw someone get hit by a car, luckily it wasn't at great speed but his head cracked the windshield. I was really shaken afterwards

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/08/2021 21:13

Plenty of times, work in a care home.

54321nought · 15/08/2021 21:13

walking past an isolated farm house with flames flickering inside

PoppyDotx · 15/08/2021 21:13

I have twice -

Once when there was a drunk driver in front of me, we'll a driver under the influence at least and swerving all over the road.

The other time was when there was a man on the hard shoulder of the motorway at 11pm at night trying to get a ride.

helly29 · 15/08/2021 21:14

A couple of months ago we had to ring the fire brigade to get our three year old free after she got her fingers stuck in the hinge side of a door.

Felt ridiculous but had no other way to get her out and didn't know if she'd seriously damaged her hand. They came really quickly and were great

Eechuffingnuff · 15/08/2021 21:14

Four times in one afternoon on advice of doctors while my MIL deteriorated in my arms. Took 4 hours and 4 calls. When the first response bloke on a bike arrived he was horrified and asked me to make a complaint, which was repeated by the ambulance crew as they couldn't believe they hadn't been sent earlier. They even wrote it the number and details for me to call.

CosmicComfort · 15/08/2021 21:15

I’m a mental health nurse, phone fairly regularly for ambulances. A couple of times for police support due to violence.

SheABitSpicyToday · 15/08/2021 21:15

When I crashed my car

Sexnotgender · 15/08/2021 21:16

Yes, my work place was on fire.

spongedod · 15/08/2021 21:16

Yes. I saw a couple fighting one day and I thought the man was assaulting the woman. Turns out he was trying to prevent her from an attempt on her life. I left once the police arrived.

Thesearmsofmine · 15/08/2021 21:16

Yes, once when I found someone collapsed on the pavement on a night out, once when someone was fitting in the bus station and once when a crime was taking place.

OublietteBravo · 15/08/2021 21:16

Yes. When a cyclist collapsed in the heat. I was on my way to the airport and almost missed my flight by stopping to help.

Metabigot · 15/08/2021 21:17

Broke down in a live lane on the m62 just before an exit... leapt out the car up the embankment and called. They picked me up on the cameras straight away and had a team.out in minutes

elQuintoConyo · 15/08/2021 21:17

At university when my flatmate OD'd. It was awful. We were 19.

Angel2702 · 15/08/2021 21:17

Lots of times, several times when witnessing domestic violence, once when my husband was attacked, someone trying to break into our house and probably some I’ve forgotten.

Notsurenow43 · 15/08/2021 21:17

Once as a class teacher for a pupil with a heart condition.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 15/08/2021 21:17

Once on my ndn who was dragging his adult ds downstairs by his hair...
Once when my mate had been stabbed.

Nosilayak · 15/08/2021 21:17

Three times, once when I saw an elderly man collapse in the street outside. The second time for my grandmother who was having trouble breathing and the third time when my dh was threatening to stab himself through the heart. Each time dialling the number felt surreal and I hope I never have to ring it again.

CourgetteGlutTony · 15/08/2021 21:17

Age 7, in 1970, from a public phone box, as a Brownie. We all queued up to learn how to do it; it had all been arranged with the emergency services operator beforehand

Sundancerintherain · 15/08/2021 21:18

Yes, twice.
First one was when my mum collapsed when I was a teen.
Second time I was looking out of my lounge window when a car failed to stop at a zebra crossing and hit an elderly lady.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 15/08/2021 21:18

Lots of times.

We had neighbours who were terribly violent to one another. Seemed to have 999 on speed dial until we moved out.

Called them for odds and ends over the years. Never fire though touch wood.

purplemunkey · 15/08/2021 21:18

Once, for myself. After suffering for a day or so with what I thought was a bad flu I developed a rash and feared meningitis. I was home alone and didn't drive at the time so called 999 for advice and they sent an ambulance. It was meningitis and I was in hospital for a week or so. Recovered ok and was glad I called.

xoJellyBean · 15/08/2021 21:18

I found my grandfather unresponsive

Dontsayyouloveme · 15/08/2021 21:18

Yeah, for fire brigade when Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh was on fire!!

Emmelina · 15/08/2021 21:19

Yes, a few times over the years. An upstairs neighbour when I lived in a flat was beating the daylights out of his girlfriend, I could hear furniture crashing (whether thrown or her being thrown into it), and they had a young baby - police
A car towing a caravan jack knifed ahead of me on the motorway and the whole setup ended up on its side and sliding - police and ambulance
An old lady collapsed in the high street - ambulance
Eldest knocked herself out in the garden falling off a pogo stick - ambulance
A fight broke out outside our house, lots of blood curdling screaming! - police

Sounds like I call a lot, but over many years it’s not so bad 😅
