What am I doing wrong with my iPhone camera?

Friend and I have the same phone (Iphone Xs). We can be standing next to each other taking the same picture of the same thing in the same light and hers looks like David Yarrow took it and mine look like I’ve taken it on an IPhone 3 whilst running.

Am I just shit or are there magic settings I’ve missed?

Do you have a screen protector on it that may be covering the camera lens?

Swap phones and see if it’s still the same. Then you’ll know if it’s you or the phone.

Does she edit her pictures? That makes a massive difference, especially if she uses apps like Photoshop or Snapseed.

No advice here, I have exactly the same issue

is the lens clean? I have been guilty of that, trying to work out why pictures are all soft and misty, only to discover it's filthy

technique? dh loves to jab the "button" to take the pic, phone moves a mile and he wonders why his pics are rubbish, he also likes a burly case and they can affect the end result even if they don't obscure the lenses

go through the settings and see if you have the best resolution

Is she using the Portrait option? That takes much nicer pictures than the standard one

Everyone's pictures look nicer than mine even when taken on older iPhone. I didn't know about the portrait option so will try that!
