Windchimes

I love windchimes. I was thinking lately getting some windchimes and handing them in my room by the window. Would the windchimes work hanging them inside by and open window? Would it be a loud noise. I want to be considerate over the others in the house. I find windchimes very soothing.

Depends how big they are and how windy it is

squashyhat · 14/08/2021 19:24

No. Just no.

Hardploc · 14/08/2021 19:24

Depends

Zarene · 14/08/2021 19:26

I would absolutely hate this. You need to really, really make sure that people in your house are ok with it, and tell them you will take it down if they ever have a problem with it.

And if there’s any chance they could be heard by neighbours it would be extremely antisocial.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/08/2021 19:26

Please don't. Your neighbours will hear them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/08/2021 19:27

You can get apps BTW for closed window wind chimes.

AnonymousCheerleader · 14/08/2021 19:29

Fucking hate wind chimes.

KittyScratch · 14/08/2021 19:30

I have no neighbours close by. I don't live in a housing estate. It's a detached house in a rural place. I have neighbours but they are up and down the road and not very close.

If I was hang wind chimes inside my bedroom window, I doubt the neighbours will hear them. I wasn't planning on hanging them outside.

That's good then! Just ask the people who you live with if it's ok and let them know they must tell you if they want you to take them down ever

StarDrawers · 14/08/2021 19:33

And you can always shut your window if it gets too loud

daytriptovulcan · 14/08/2021 19:35

If neighnours wont hear them then do it... Though personally as a child i loved to hear our neighbours wind chimes as i drifted off to sleep.

daytriptovulcan · 14/08/2021 19:36

I crave a house in the country, with secluded garden and wind chimes!

NigellaSeed · 14/08/2021 19:48

I love wooden wind chimes. Whenever it's rainy and windy at night I wish I had some. Didn't realize they were antisocial :(

YesItsMeIDontCare · 14/08/2021 19:53

You need Woodstock Chimes OP. Properly tuned so a decent musical sound rather than a slightly tinny jangle.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/08/2021 19:56

I love wind chimes.

Giggorata · 14/08/2021 20:00

I like wind chimes and I have them indoors at a few windows and doors. They cheer me up.
But then I also have an aeolian harp…

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/08/2021 20:01

I'm extremely noise sensitive and bad tempered, but our NDN has some wooden wind chimes and I love hearing them. Would be a different story with metal ones..

LavendulaAngustifolia · 14/08/2021 21:06

I have a small chime by the window which I love because its comforting sound to me as it was originally in my grans house. It's just inside the window and it's only really when there's a strong breeze but I don't care if the neighbours can hear it, their dog barking is an annoying sound.

Harpydragon · 14/08/2021 21:15

I have windchimes all over the house, I love them, but make sure you listen to them first so you don't get tinny ones.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/08/2021 21:37

I have some small tinkly ones my mum bought me. I love them. Although they are broken 😞

GoodVibesHere · 14/08/2021 21:38

I agree that Woodstock are the best chimes

Farevalah · 14/08/2021 21:43

We used to have metal ones in the garden, I loved them but DH kept tangling them on purpose so they wouldn't chime. It was a battle as I kept untangling them, in the end they mysteriously broke so got binned.

Off to look at Woodstocks now 😁

JayAlfredPrufrock · 15/08/2021 07:45

Oh what a joy the Woodstock website is. Thank you.

eightlivesdown · 15/08/2021 08:00

OK provided nobody else can hear them.
