Northern Trains? Stockport to Buxton?

Hi

Does anyone travel on Northern trains and know if Stockport to Buxton during the day is a route that is cancelled regularly?

DD is going on a course in Buxton in couple of weeks time but when we look at the train time tables online they say that Northern Railway haven't confirmed if the route will be running. Is that something that happens and actually its just a commuter service or something and they run every half hour?

Thanks!

They're never cancelled. Maybe delayed regularly but we live on that line and DH commutes yo work via it he's not had any issues

The train like is at the bottom of our garden and I'd say they run 2 trains each way per hour?

If the course is at the HSE labs... Its not very walkable from train station....

I get the Piccadilly to New Mills central line, that is usually every 30 minutes. There is currently a shortage of train drivers, so it is once an hour at the minute. I would assume it's likely to be the same for the Buxton line.

georgedawes · 14/08/2021 17:22

Yeah it's a regular train

goldbrick · 14/08/2021 17:23

Ignore me then, seems I've spent half the month waiting at Piccadilly when I could of changed to that train instead!

Ah thanks, the timetable was giving us the fear she was going to be late on her first day I was going to have to do a mercy drive there as she panicked at the station Grin

She's planning on getting a cab from the station, fingers crossed! Thanks again, love MN for proper info!

Slightly off topic but I live in Buxton and recommend Tic-Tak Taxis - 01298 72333.

If your on the first train in the winter you can hear the icicles breaking as the train goes through the tunnels out of buxton Grin my son regularly catches the train into manchester from buxton, never known it cancelled. Hope she has a great time

You can find departures from a station in real time on the National Rail website 'live departures', which can give an indication of reliability if you look from time to time.

Northern are using a temporary timetable at the moment so only showing times upto 20th August. The Picc Buxton line is one of the affected routes.
They've been understaffed for ages and then have staff isolating etc which has caused a lot of issues. New timetables for 23 August onwards aren't up yet.
