How many hours of television do you watch per week

I'm always surprised at the amount of box sets my friends seem to get through - sometimes watching 6 hours or so in an evening.

I've worked out I probably average 12 hours a week.

How much do you watch?

Less than one. I've completely got out of the habit of watching television in recent years.

JaninaDuszejko · 14/08/2021 08:06

Not much, less than 10. Just don't ask about my internet habit.

Hemingwaycat · 14/08/2021 08:06

Not many at all. If we find a decent series to watch (which we haven’t for a while) then we probably watch 1-2 episodes a night so no more than 14 hours a week. I haven’t really watched anything for at least 2 weeks.

thesunwillout · 14/08/2021 08:08

Yes I'm the same with normal TV, I don't watch many box sets either.

I don't seem to have the concentration, think the internet browsing has taken over.

Plump82 · 14/08/2021 08:09

We dont have a TV licence so tend to just movies or the odd thing on catch up so many 10ish hours?

Usernamenotallowed · 14/08/2021 08:12

Way too much. Probably 4 or 5 hours a day in the week and 2 at the weekend so nearly 30 hours a week.

CanICelebrate · 14/08/2021 08:12

Far too much and it often means I go to bed far too late!

Fashio · 14/08/2021 08:13

I never watch TV during the day, I was brought up to think that was working class and lazy. I think to be honest is a bit. No telly till about 8 o’clock at the earliest

AuntieMarys · 14/08/2021 08:13

About 10 hours a week....a Netflix episode per night and a couple more at the weekend.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/08/2021 08:14

We turn on a box set with dinner (only dh and me). We watch 1 or 2 episode while we eat. Then we usually have a good chat. Then we go to bed.

StarryStarrySocks · 14/08/2021 08:15

Probably about 7 or 8.

TroysMammy · 14/08/2021 08:15

Half an hour for Only Connect.

GoodnightGrandma · 14/08/2021 08:16

I usually watch TV 8-10pm, I might have it on in the day for a bit but I soon find it boring so switch it off.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/08/2021 08:17

Very little. It depends on what's on but I have three programmes I watch regularly, but are only on fire part of the year. I don't really watch anything else, just the news occasionally. Don't have Netflix, very rarely watch films.

However, I average 6 hours a day online! No idea how....

Spondooliesforholibobs · 14/08/2021 08:18

About 5-6 hours a week and even that seems time wasted but it’s a “family activity” with a teen and so will continue for now

arethereanyleftatall · 14/08/2021 08:18

I probably only watch tv one evening a week nowadays, and even then only for an hour or so.
It doesn't appeal as much as my phone does for downtime any more.

MyOtherProfile · 14/08/2021 08:21

Some evenings we watch TV from about half 7, after dinner, until we go to bed about half 10. Other evenings we don't put it on. Depends what we are doing. But it's a bit all or nothing.

RampantIvy · 14/08/2021 08:22

Too much Grin
I have a deeply unsociable husband who never wants to go anywhere, I'm not into arts and crafts, jigsaw etc, I don't have young children, nor do I lead a busy lifestyle. We both love watching crime dramas, so we record them and watch one most nights.

I also read, but prefer to read in bed.

I don't understand the moral superiority of some people who think that watching TV is beneath them.

PermanentTemporary · 14/08/2021 08:24

On Thursday I watched a sitcom episode and a long movie so that was getting on for 3 hours. I've watched some long Olympic patches over the past two weeks and recently had lengthy Tour de France sessions. Surely more meaningful nowadays to think about passive screen tome in general, if you added that up it probably makes 6 hours a day or more Confused

DukeOfEarlGrey · 14/08/2021 08:25

I’ve never watched much TV all my life and then Covid came along and I watch far, far too much now.

sqirrelfriends · 14/08/2021 08:34

About an hour a night in the week and probably closer to two at the weekend. So about 9-10 hours.

Used to be loads more before DS.

HasselbackForLife · 14/08/2021 08:38

There is a lot of snobbery around tv watching and a lot of stealth boasting about how much people don't watch. It's ok to watch tv if that's how you unwind. It's a way of consuming stories, information, news. Book reading was seen in a similar way in the 17th century.
I watch it every evening. Love it.

ParityJ · 14/08/2021 08:41

Not unusual for my TV to he on 9am till midnight. How much I actually watch is probably not much. Between cartoons and news and music and stuff, actual programs I sit to watch is maybe 5 hours a day, more at weekend though

LubaLuca · 14/08/2021 08:44

A lot I think, compared to most. I like watching quiz shows, and we always have a drama series on the go. Then there are lots of regulars such as The Repair Shop and Countryfile, and comedy series. I'm looking forward to the new series of Gone Fishing that's advertised at the moment. Plus plenty of Netflix shows, including watching things I've seen several times before like The Office.

So at least a couple of hours a day, even on evenings when I've got other things on.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 14/08/2021 08:45

Very little, my phone has taken over the time now, so maybe half an hour a day but hours of internetting plus I am fidgetry and always do something else at the same time as watching. I'd like to watch more telly, I just don't seem to have the attention span for it any more.
